It is the time of year to think about turkey guns. As noted in some recent threads, I still find myself more in the 12 ga camp than the 20 ga. But, the lighter weight of the 20 ga is attractive. Weatherby made (now discontinued) a pump 12 ga that is only a half pound heavier than my 20 ga semi-auto. I'm curious if anyone has any first hand experience with that shotgun.
Thanks, Steve

Wonder why they discontinued that production?
I suspect the answer was a growing number of people were seeing greater merit in carrying half-pound lighter 20 ga?

It is actually much more than the difference of a half-pound.
The 20 gauge has smaller dimensions with the weight more centered.
I know you don't use a crossbow, but there's a big difference in carrying one with a wide bow vs. one with a narrow bow.
On a more limited scale, same physics apply here.

Then, there is also the issue in the weight of the shells.
Even when carrying the exact same payload weight,
20 gauge shells are considerably lighter, and with smaller dimensions, than 12 ga.

And not just the shells in your loaded gun, but also those in your pockets.
