Here is Illinois, we have permits valid for five days. Yep, mine was this week. Cold, snow, wind...good times. Long story short, I was calling late morning this morning and had my old gobbler fired up. He was on the way, and I knew once he cut through the ravine in the woods....he would hit the open field, see my strutter, game over. LOL...not quite. He was triple gobbling, his band of three jakes entered the field first. He was in the woods gobbling his head off and moving my way. BANG!!!!!! Yep, one of the farmers on the other land who has boys who sit tight, call soft got lucky. Bird practically ended up on top of him. No worries, that's hunting. Who else has done someone else a favor by mistake??? AL

I did last year, called in 3 longboards from 2 fields over. Guy shot on the corner on my land. Ran over to catch them and they were gone. Happens more often than not and it sucks lol

I've done it in reverse. Last year I found a bird free gobbling one afternoon, I carefully chose my set up and called, bird immediately responded and marched right in to his death. After I shot I heard a whistle. Yep, another hunter had been working that bird for two hours and it had hung up just out of sight that's why I never heard him call as he was waiting silently. Guy couldn't have been nicer and ironically the same hunter did it to me the first Sunday of the season this year. A bird was on his way to me and the guy got lucky and got in between us and never made a call as rhto bird marched by. It happens and I wasn't mad and enjoyed talking to him again this time in a reversal of roles

I did it on a WMA seceral years ago. Walking down a trail casting and struck a bird to my left. Moved quick and set up with a small rise between us so he would have to top it to find me. He was gobbling good and clearly coming. About when I started to expect his head to pop over the rise I heard a shot JUST on the other side (within 50 yards of me). Scared the hell out of me. I went over to see the guy. He didn't do anything wrong. He was sitting with his back to the rise and had a whole flock of decoys set up -in the woods. Didn't have a call that I ever saw. He'd been sitting there all morning. I just happend to call the bird right to his spread. Guy was a local preacher. I took hos picture with the bird and have it in a turkey hunting picture album.
