But my 2014 Turkey season has come to an end, at least behind the trigger ;) . I will now use my last 3-4 available hunts to try to help my brother get one.

Season ended quickly and by pure luck, but i wouldn't have had it any other way. Finally connected with my nephew and took him out. He said, "I want to go down here, because I always see turkeys in that area and my Paw has his back pasture and there are turkeys there a lot" (his grand parents own 10 acres that backs to their property. SIL checked with them to be sure they were ok with us hunting the back pasture and they were, so off we went. I was teaching him how to move slowly, keep observant and how to use the terrain to block the turkey's vision from you so you can get to where you can see the fields and check if there are birds there. I'm easing along and I see across the pasture and across the small creek there is a hen feeding, maybe 75 yds away. I tell him get down and we move into the wood line to the left of the logging road in a patch of woods that is basically a point, with the road to the right and the pasture now dead in front of us. There is a huge brush pile set to be burned I assume, right in front of us, but she is to the right of it. I look for her, but she has disappeared in the high grass. I look to my left and make sure the horses are up front, and see them in the distance about 150 yds due left. My nephew is behind me and I hear him say, "is that a boy turkey" I look back to the pasture and this joker is coming out from behind the brush pile to the left of it. I see the beard and said, yes. I was on a knee and had the gun on my shoulder, so I brought it up and let him have it at 25 yds. He went down without a single flap. I guess he heard us slip into the woods and thought it was another turkey, so he went to investigate. Sent the boy to get him, and of course when he got there the bird starts flapping a bit, so I am laughing and yelling to him, grab his legs, put your foot on his neck. It was pretty funny, but he got him and then dragged him back to me.
