I got a later start today due to the weather but I was driving up to the private land I'm hunting around 7:45 and see 2 toms, 1 jake, and 3 or 4 hens all about 10-30 yards off the road on the neighboring property. I don't have permission to hunt that land but it was still hard to not just pop one from the truck.
I had to drive right past them to get to the property I was hunting that was just another 200 yards away. They didn't seem to spook so I hurried up and set up just on the edge of the allowed property and tried to call them in. Never could get them to do anything but I one gobbling his head off up on a ridge 400-500 yards away. So I decided to move on him and got to what I felt was 80-100 yards away and set up. Fir about 5-10 minutes it sounded like he was getting closer then I heard s gobble way off in the distance and nothing since.
Now I'm sitting in the cold, wet, silence...
