If you could design a decoy, what would be the end product?

I've been modifying one of my decoys and I believe it is just about as perfect as I could hope for. It is a half-stut jake with a multi-position tail fan. Also, I've made this decoy extremely mobile and easy to set up.

The half-stut is by far my favorite decoy b/c they are much less intimidating and work the entire season as opposed to the full-strut. Once a 2-year-old has been whooped a few times the full-strut decoy will send him running to the next county. Also, this type is much less bulky than the full-strut version.

I prefer jake decoys with an extremely realistic head. I want the red and blue to glow so a gobbler 2oo yards away will know it is a jake.

I hunt alot of public land, so i am terrified to use a decoy. I do carry a couple of hen decoys with me though when I am on private land.

the only thing i look for is durable paint, light and packs up very easy...

i have a few of the old foam ones that i just repaint each spring. keep them in my vest but they usually never come out. I dont like the hard plastic ones and the inflatable are very funny to me.

I have found that time of year play's a big factor in decoy placement.Gobbler's are sometimes looking for a fight and other times just looking for that lone hen!

I've had them see my primos gobbler and RUN the other way. I agree with you..sometimes that ole' bird has been beat up on some and doesn't want anymore!

The first year they came out with the Pretty Boy Pretty Hen setup I just thought I had to have it,but I soon found out that my old reliable 2 hens and a jake was my bread and butter,Pretty boy stays on the shelf alot, not the he is not useful, but he has his place and time!

Although I have a house full of dekes, mostly Delta's, I think just one Delta feeding hen will get it done. The feeding hen is at ease, and a gobbler sees a hen when he's looking for what's making all of the noise! lol

It may sound crazy, and not to let all my secret's out,but the Pretty Boy can be used as a decoy, just pull it out and walk slowly behind it toward a burd and you'll be surprised!
