That was a question I got from another post. After thinking about it, I thought I would make my own personal post to share with you guys! I Have been a member long enough and have enough points on my head. With that said I share this.
I was introduced to hunting from a man whom In dearly respected. He was not a perfect man but non the less I learned some things.
In fairview one morning I shot my first deer. We tracked that deer for over 400 yards. Never did find it. I really had a hard time with that. Bill told me that day. Well it probably was not a fatal hit. We would probably get another shot at it. Looking back I realze now. That man lied!! That deer bleed to death somewhere! Lol
He said that to me because I did not know my butt from a hole in the ground and he knew I needed hunting in my life.
I once shot a huge doe with two fawns in tow! I ended up jumping her in a thicket and watched her two fawns trail behind her. I never did find that deer and I had a very hard time with that.
Bill died many years ago in a house fire. It was horrible and I cried as I read my eulogy to this man. His ashes washed down a beautiful stream in waynesboro.
With all this being said I learned something over these years.
I learned the day I walk up too any Deer I harvest and do not feel some sort of sorrow, is the day I am done. Hunting is an emotional thing for me. It is something you can not explain to others. It is something they must experience.
I also learned that I love these animals. I love everything about them and I care about their survival and their diseases. I care about their off spring and I even think about how they are doing in severe thunder and lightening storms. I also care about their food source in the winter.
So what am I? I think I am a deer hunter. Not a meat hunter, Not a horn hunter. I am a deer hunter and everything that goes along with being a deer hunter. A noble deer hunter that is in awe of gods creation and these majestic animals. Each and every one of them no matter what the genetics.
I know to each hunter they have their own relationship with these animals. But for me appreciating and enjoying each and every emotion that goes along with this experience is what counts the most.
The way I see it. If you do not love these creatures in which you are hunting. You are not getting the gift God has given us all to its fullest extent and you are missing out.
My 2 cents.
