I'm taking my youngest brother out Sunday morning. The only shot gun I have for him to use though is a mossberg 835 with a primos Jelly head .690 choke. I think a three inch shell may be too much kick for him. he has a small frame. Do any of you know what size 2 3/4" shot I should have him get and have any of you seen people be successful with that size? I was thinking some 6's but I'm not sure. I think he should be able to kill a bird out to 25 or 30 yards with this set up.... hopefully.

sounds like a great time. any of the buffered turkey 2 3/4" loads will be fine. When my wife goes with me she shoots a single shot 20 gauge 3" full choke barrel. snaged a couple birds with it. I would think a 2 3/4" 12 gauge loadwould be equal or better than.

Load it with 3" shells but let him shoot it beforehand with 2 3/4" and don't tell him any different. He won't feel a thing when he shoots the bird. My nephew killed his first last year at 8 and my brother had him do it this way and he never knew the difference.

This is what i'd do, I did that last yr during deer season with my buddies 13 yr little boy, he harvested his first buck using my 7mag and never knew the gun went off.
