I have two food plots that are about 1/2 acre each. In the fall, we planted clover in one and turnips in the other. The plots did OK, but we didn't get the results we wanted. I am wanting to plant something around mid March for turkey season. We hold turkeys much better throughout the season when we have something planted. Is Mid March to early to plant something? If not, what would you suggest I plant?

I would plant Chufa, would not plant it till around May 1st though. Let the soil temp warm up and make sure that we are out of the possibility of a frost. Turks love it.

Planting chufa in March I think is way to early but that's just me. I wouldn't plant anything just for turkeys but March you could plant clover for sure.

x2 otherwise do clover. I'm not a big fan of chufa. It's actually a common weed in food plots, so unless it was going to be dedicated as a chufa plot, I would not seed it. You need sandy soils and plenty of moisture for it to do well and for the turkeys to be able to get at it.

I would have to disagree with this. We have two 1/2 acre plots on our lease dedicated to turkeys. We planted Chufa around May 15th and they have done phenomenal. Our soil is definitely not sandy because it is a Timber lease.
