im looking to go buy shotgun today but ive noticed most turkey guns have 20 in to 24 in barrel. why? wouldnt 26 or 28 be better? wouldnt the shorter barrels be less accurate? i would like to use it for other hunting like squirrells or rabbbits. please help with any suggestions. just trying to buy best all around gun for about $400

Barrel length has nothing to do with accuracy.
The shorter barrel is easier to handle in a turkey blind and does not catch on every overhanging limb while you have the gun slung. I know this from personal experience.
A longer barrel has a longer sight plane and is said to help in follow through on moving shots. I don't believe this; again from personal experience.
Chaneylake can verify that I used to shoot a case of shells a week through a Browning BPS that had a 22 in barrel and another case through a Remington 1100 with a 21 inch barrel. The 1100 now belongs to Stretch. The BPS is gone because it took 3 hands to put it back together.
I said all of that to say this. Find a gun YOU LIKE. Get a turkey choke and figure out what kind of shells it shoots best and where it centers the pattern, then try to wear the finish off of it chasing turkeys.

I like the 835 myself for turkey. I agree with everything Hatchee said about barrel length. I prefer a shorter barrel turkey hunting. Also, with Hatchee, get one YOU LIKE.

I'll jump in ........ I'd say Remington 870. But, I think it's more important to get a gun that fits you. This is especally true if the gun is multi-purpose.
While I've got a 23" 870 and a 24" 835, I prefer a 26" and thats what I use the majority of the time.
Also, even though I shoot both 3.5" and 3" shells , I really beleive the 3" throw a more consistant pattern.
