What if you could buy a new rifle at about 1/3 of cost? It is a really nice rifle but not in a caliber that you would probably ever need.

1st condition is once you buy it you cannot resell it out of respect for the original owner nor can you return it to the original owner.

2nd condition even though it is a deal you really don't have the extra money for it.

So what would you do.

You dont have the extra money, it is a caliber you wont use, pass on it.

I would see if it is a caliber that the first person that responds to your post would want....And let him buy it.
(But I'm just that kinda guy)

For 4-500 bucks, I'd buy it... That being said, I'd never use it either, but I'd be tempted to rebarrel it for that price. If he wouldn't let you rechamber it, I'd probably pass.

I could use it in Africa but don't need it because more than likely I'll never be able to afford to hunt dangerous game. It is kind of overkill for plainsgame if there is such a thing as too much gun. It is kind of one of those boy that sure is a nice rifle, a nice piece of wood, something I don't have, a nice price, 100% no need for it at this time.

Would have to think it over for a while before decideing but would likely have to pass.

Nothing was said about rebarreling it was they???

Hmmm if I was going to rebarrel it I would probably just buy whatever caliber I was going to rebarrel to and be done with it. My custom gun building days have come to screaching halt, just cannot afford it anymore. Looking back I was lucky to get the few I have and not sure how I afforded it then.

you sure layed out some pretty stocks..

in Africa in that power range I think I would feel better with something in the 416 a little slower and less pressure.

If it was a real good deal, I would probably buy it. I have never seen guns do anything but go up in price. Might be a good investment to pass on to your boy or grandson. Better look at how high priced guns and components are getting right now. Things change, friend may move,or pass away before you.( yeah that's morbid) May be a better deal than you realize.

Is it a custom model (i.e. Safari Custom, Crown Custom, DGR)? Sounds like the guy is trying to make you a deal at a third the price. And if he has induced you to keep the gun until your dying days, respect him and keep the gun. He may just always want to know it is in a good home. Hard to turn down a Weatherby!!!!

Still have not made up my mind. I would rather it have been in a non-Weatherby big bore round, 375/416,et., cheaper to reload for and easier to find shells for it.
