Is there normally a best week for turkey hunting in Tennessee like deer hunting or no...im sure alot depends on weather trying to figure out when to take vacation.. any suggestions

anytime i can get out!!

first week is great if the weather has been warm enough, mid april is also very good. The only time i tend to not like much is the last week.

last week you can still kill them fine but by then i am wore out from hunting and it is HOTTTTTT!!!

They seem to gobble the most at the beginning at at the end of the season. There is always a lull sort of for me where the birds arent as vocal some time in the middle of the season.

I like to be out there at the beginning just because I've waited 11 months for it to open back up. However, I like getting after those late season birds that are looking for that lonely hen that hasn't been bred yet. Anytime to be after them is a good time.

My best success comes in the latter part of the season. The last 2 or 3 weeks. The gobblers seem to be more willing to come to calls than early season while they are all henned up. They are not as vocal in late season but my success is better then.

I hear alot of bird @ the first of season but it seems they are henned up right off the roost.Mid season action is slow but I still hear some birds. My opinion is late season is the best as long as U haven't pressured the birds and got them call shy.

Every week the season is open.

I agree! Didn't know there was a bad time to be in the spring turkey woods chasing them gobblers.......

Every year is different IMO. Sometimes its real good at the first and bad at the end, then other times it right the opposite. Thats why its important to hunt it all the way through. BUT,.. if i only had one week to hunt period and thats its thats all,.. it would be the 3rd week in april. Right in the middle!!

By FAR, the best week of the season is the second week of April. Birds have definetly broken up from winter flocks and are most vulnerable to calling.

That being said, I gave the second week up a few years ago simply because so many birds were killed opening week leaving around half the number of birds to chase by the second week. For that reason, I always hunt the opener now. But it's a gamble... a cold, late winter could potentially result in a complete bust, though.

That's also why I'm a little pissed about them screwing with opening week dates and opening the season the earliest it has ever opened since I've been hunting. So much for tying the opener to the 'saturday closest to April 1'...

I'm sure it is different in other areas but the first week in May is always awesome for me. I always kill a lot of birds during mid April but for whatever reason I have killed a longbeard during the last weekend of the season for the last 9 years.
