I was wondering what the birds were doing as of now. Are they gobbling much of the mornings or evenings???? I was hoping to take a newbie out to a spot soon where I can't hunt just to listen to the birds and I was wanting to see if anyone could fill me in on a report. Thanks

Yeah I know its still pretty early but I was hoping to possibly hear them a few times. If I did go it would be a spot I know about close to Knoxville. I went over to Cades Cove Thursday and they were still in their bachelor groups but everyone of them had their red, white, and blue heads. I was at a spot where 2 groups got close to one another and they began calling a good bit to each other and kept getting louder. All of a sudden all of the birds in the big flock gobbled and took off up the hill to meet the others for a little fight. That got me good a fired up! Also so one group of about 10 birds and near about everyone of them had multiple beards!!!! 1 had 4 beards, 3 had 3 beards, and 2 had 2 beards. Got some pretty good pictures of the one with 4 birds but I'm not sure if you can see all 4. I know you can at least see 3 of them. Haven't seen them on a computer yet, they are on my dad's big camera.

If you can roost a big flock of turkeys in winter time and be there when they fly down. you will probably hear sounds youve never heard before. i did it couple years back it was pretty neat. never would of thought they gobbled like that in 20 degree weather, but they did.

Yeah I know what you mean! That's what I was hoping for!! If these birds are there which they normally are, I would be pretty close to them. It's a pretty small block of woods and real easy to move closer quietly if necessary. I know last year every evening and morning, a little later of course, there would be at least 6-7 longbeards and 1 or 2 jakes sounding off! On days I wasn't able to hunt and had a little time I would just go to listen to them.

I have heard gobbles several times in late deer season but no this year. I saw more turkeys during deer season this year than I have ever seen.

When I have heard the winter gobbles, they have been a single gobble. Nothing like you hear in the morning around the opening of the season.

I miss deer season and football so much already. I can hardly wait for turkey season. I have gotten where I even like turkey hunting more than deer and I just started with the turkeys 4 years ago.
