I was watching a line of about 10 jakes this morning in the woods when I noticed something strange.
The last bird seemed to be injured, as he didn't stand tall, his head was down and he seemed to walk with some difficulty.
When the bird cleared the brush I saw what the problem was: It wasn't a turkey! It was a large, brown chicken bringing up the rear. I went for my camera phone, but they were gone.
I later talked to the neighbor and he said he had no chickens, that the closest ones were about 1/2 mile away, over two ridges and a road.
I'm going to try and find this flock again, and this time I will be ready - with the camera.
