I didn't get to take my son last wknd due to me recovering from ankle surgery but hope to get him out soon. I shot his gun tonight with 3 different chokes. They will all kill a turkey but know which one that I'm leaning towwrds. I'm curious what everyone's opinion is.

870 youth
Fed Hvt Wt #7
37 yards (minimum steps is my goal with my foot and where I placed the target close to 40 to step off plus forgot the range finder which would require more steps. :) figured it was close enough).

#1
Tru Glo SSX - pretty sure I pulled this one as his gun was lined up with it last year

10" - 230
20" - 64

#2
Carlson's non ported

10" - 152
20" - 132

#3
Tight Wad
10" - 210
20" - 72

Also, I shot the SSX at 25 yards with a regular 2.75" shell to check poi with a good pattern that wasn't super tight. He shot the Tight Wad at 25 with same results.

Depends on the shooter and where you going. If the kid can shoot and has been around the game a while then 1 or 3 will be fine especially if hunting field birds.

If you hunting mostly woods and still in beginner to novice phase then 2 is the obvious choice

He's 8, never killed a turkey, and will be woods hunting. However, he's killed 7 deer, is a very good shot, and doesn't get nervous. His deer rifle and shotgun have the same red dot. I'm confident in his shot. My first thought was the Carlson but leaning towards the Tight Wad.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna go with #2 which was my initial gut feeling before I counted. I'm tickled how it shot with all three chokes. It makes me want to kill one with a 20. I've got a regular 870 20 that I may put chokes 1 & 3 in and shoot before the year is up.
