I'm about to buy 2 more trail cams. The two I'm leaning towards are the covert mp8 black and the stealth cam g42ng. I've usually had good luck with my covert cams, but I've heard good things about the g42ng as well. I can get both cams for about $100. Which should I get or is there an even better one now that's around that price or cheaper?

"Around" $100, if I were adding a couple . . . . . Browning Dark Ops would be my best bet.
Shop around, you can find one for around $100 (and ok if it's last year's model ---- they're tried & proven).
IMO, they're a better cam now than any of the Coverts.
If you're mainly doing video, that Stealth G42 has a slight advantage, but otherwise I'll take the Browning.

I read a couple post on here saying the dark ops were good cams, but I thought they were talking about the dark ops elites. They run about $150. Are the $100ish dark ops HD just as good?

I'd take any prior year Dark Ops model over any Covert cam at this point, even if they were the exact same price or you were giving them to me. I don't mean to be knocking Covert, and you'll find no better people to help you when you have a problem, but I believe Browning is currently offering a better value.

Opinions vary, but I don't like the way the Stealth Cam attaches to a tree when using cable locks, i.e. you have to remove the cam from tree to exchange the cards, messing up a prior carefully aimed cam that has to now be re-positioned. If you're using metal security boxes, that peeve of mine is a non-issue.

i have 3 the stelth cam your speaking about .they are fair better around a mineral lick not so good on trails .trigger speed slow,i have 6 browning all good cams have 3 different models all good.battery life great on both brands .i also have 2 bushnell that i like alot also .dollar for dollar browning has slight edge to me

I have had pretty bad luck using my Stealth Cam for anything more than over a mineral lick or food source. It doesn't catch movement on a trail very well.

Muddy pro cam 12, I now own 4, and they are awesome.
If memory serves correct, those are made by Browning.

I think you are correct. I heard the same. A guy I work with bought a browning dark ops that was a 2015 model they was selling for $99 on eBay. We compare the 2 often. The pic quality is almost identical for both day and night. The trigger speed seems to be comparable, both less than a second. The only noticeable difference so far is my muddy cams give better battery life. Using the same batteries, and getting near same pic count, and both set to a 3 pic burst, the muddy has a 20% better life.

Is the Muddy Pro Cam easy to lock down? I seem to have a bad problem of people wanting my cameras more than I do.

Thanks deerchaser007. I have a couple of the Browning Dark Ops that I really like. I think I'll give the Muddy Cameras a try.

From what I have seen in reviews, go with just the pro cam 12. The pro cam 10(IR cam) seems to have a seal issue, causing water damage in some of their cams. But, I have that muddy is standing behind their warranty on the issue. But, it don't seem to be a issue with the12 model.

I don't know if they offer security boxes or not. They do have a spot for a lock to prevent the battery and SD card door from being opened. But as far as jerking one off a tree, it gets hard to prevent a thief from being a thief.

I'm a fan of the bushnell trophy cams. A couple of weeks ago, you could find the essential right at $100. It's a good camera for the money. I'm currently using one and two bushnell aggressors.

I've used Cudebac, eyecon, moultrie, and Browning. I strongly recommend the Browning cameras. The rest of the cameras that I have tried all ended up being junk (moultrie & eyecon) or just doesn't work as well. I put my Browning cameras out back around July and August and the only one that needed batteries were the ones I had set on video and I just changed them 3 weeks ago. I just pulled them this week and they worked great all year without 1 single problem. I bought 5 moultrie cameras last year, 3 of them didn't make it thru the year, 2 of them were still working this year 1 of them still works during the daylight and 1 of them just seems to have a mind of its own. The 2 eyecons I purchased 2 years ago worked okay but they both have a mind of their own and only worked 1/2 the time and 1 of them just went tits up this year out of the blue. The Cudebacs did a good job just didn't take quality pictures.
