Ok, today is the day. I'm ordering my first turkey gun before the clock strikes midnight. I have finally located a 24" Stoeger 3500 in APG, so here are the 2 guns that I am trying to decide between today:

Stoeger M3500 24" APG

Remington 870 SPS Turkey 23" APHD

Positives for the Stoeger:
- Semi-Auto with Benelli's intertia system
- Comes with 5 different choke tubes (Extra-full turkey, Full, Modified, Improved-Cylinder, and Cylinder)
- Comes with an installable recoil reducer and a shim kit
- Has received several good reviews

Positives for the Remington:
- Legendary reputation for performance and reliability
- SureShot grip
- Just a bit lighter than the Stoeger
- Costs $64 less than the Stoeger (but it only comes with an extended Wingmaster HD TurkeyRem Choke)

I'm torn between these 2 guns. The only shotgun I have is a Mossberg 590A1 for home defense. I'm thinking the Stoeger would let me do a little more than just Turkey hunt. A friend of mine is constantly trying to get me into bird hunting, and while a 24" barrel probably wouldn't be ideal for that, I'm assuming it would be adequate. So, right now I'm leaning towards the Stoeger. What do you think?

It will come down to which one fits you the best and if you want a pump or auto.

Having had both I would pick the 3500 without a doubt 10-10 times. It is a very underrated gun and throws a wicked pattern. Plus I believe it to be a better all around wing shooting gun

Stoeger; with my primary reasoning simply being versatility. Recoil reducer, all those chokes, and of course the standard stock mean it's well-suited for every type of fur or feathers right out of the box.

I'm an 870 man, I own 4 of them. They are very tough to wear out, and you don't have to worry about it jamming up like an automatic if it hasn't been cleaned properly. Either gun would be great for turkey hunting though. I'm not sure if you plan on duck hunting with that gun, but I would not stand beside you in a duck blind or pit with that 24 inch or shorter barrel though.

I thought about it most of the day and ordered the Stoeger 3500.

I should receive it in about 2 weeks. What should I do when I get it? I've seen comments about polished barrels. Is that something I need to do before I shoot it?

I do not own one but I have read several forums that state the barrel is chrome lined, therefore do not polish it. REN owns the 3500 and will set the record straight if I am mistaken.

Yup no need to polish it. The 3500 doesn't have to be broken in like the m2000 did as well.

You got a great shooting gun man you will be happy with it.

Now get you some magblends and a hevi-shot choke 656 and it is a bad machine.
