I planted three acres of it this year and it has done very well. The small burnet is extraordinarily drought and low-ph tolerant and chicory is very palatable (also is drought tolerant). The protein levels are out of sight.
I could not recommend this stuff enough, it fits perfectly into habitat programs where the area is either to dry or there is a lack of vegetation when it just doesnt rain.
if you plant this along with clover you will need no other perrennial.
One word of caution though, make sure all vegetation is cleared, ground is well-disked and fertilize properly. If the area is highly populated a nurse crop may be needed (as it is a slow starter) the good news is that the small burnet in the mix has been known to last for tweny years.
One more interesting tidbit, when you walk into a field of this stuff then you immediately are overcome with the smell of watermelon! The small burnet is the reason for this and if you pinch off a leaf it also taste like watermelon.

I like it also. Planted about an acre of it last spring and they have been hammering it all season. Especially the chicory as of lately. I didnt have easy access for transporting lime in the area, but i did take a few bags of fertilizer and broadcasted it earlier. It came up wonderful and I will be buying more of it each season.

I planted some small burnett on a gosh-awful reclaimed strip mine site 1 or 2 years ago, as an experiment. Zero lime or fertilizer, and the site has extremes in moisture. The burnett seems to be holding its own. I didn't think it would take the wet feet, but it is still there. I need to get a cage or two out there to get a better feel for how they are eating it. In those conditions, it does not seem aggressive enough to keep a solid stand, though; I will overseed with alsike clover probably, to fill in a little bit.
