Who eats "Poke"

Re: Who eats "Poke"

I like the stalk sliced and fried similar to squash. Not big on the leaves personally.

I love it. I boil it and then cook it in bacon fat with an egg broken in it. I've skinned stalks and fried them, too.

Whatever you do, just make sure you cook it. I've personally seen it make multiple people sick when leaves were eaten raw.

I don't eat it, so much as I shovel it in my mouth. We've made it here at the house once, and it was incredibly good. Really no tips since it's as custom as you want it to be. The hot chili sesame oil is my favorite part of the flavoring.

Another thing to try is the homemade mayonnaise to use as a sauce. Maybe we should do a poke party when it cools down a bit.

I found a container of chili sesame in the cabinet that I had entirely forgotten about, awesome stuff

I love the young plants scrambled with some eggs. Red chili flakes or a diced jalapeno.
Delish.

I thought I remember bringing some to you a while back. Ma & Pa are down on the coast this week. They are likely to stop at Joe Patti's on the way back. I can see if they'll bring a tuna loin back with them.

Y'all are talking about two totally different things. LOL. This is not poke sallet or pokeweed.

Yeah, I was getting pretty confused about that. I'm glad you made the comment...lol

I was singing "Polk Salad Annie" in my head while reading the thread. I have some of *that* kind of poke(weed) in my backyard, but never tried cooking it.

There's a different kind from a different part of the world :)

It uses cubes of raw tuna in a sauce (basically a sushi dish). I've had it at restaurants a few times, and it's great.

I prepare mine myself. I enjoy it 1 or 2 times weekly.

It's what I had for dinner.
