who gobbles while calling?

Only experience I have is with a friend of mine and he likes to gobble. It may work if the bird you are calling is the dominant bird in the area. I was with him once and we had a bird working good, but slow and he thought he would throw a gobble out there and all we seen was his backside as he was running away.

I gobble either with my natural voice or with a tube call. It can be effective, but can also end a hunt really quick as well. I use it when I know a bird has hens and is fairly dominant. If he is not then it can end the party real quick. I also use it to locate birds at times, but it is not something to be used continuously, number one it is a little dangerous.

Every year I will kill a bird or two which are super mature that have hens and they will march in after being gobbled at, especially if I follow a cutting sequence with a booming gobble.

NOPE no way just makes all the other crazies come looking for you.

Never have and never will. the last thing I want to do is call some other hunter to me.

IMO, Setterman, just gave away a heckofa big-bird trick, no doubt that it works, but also as he said, be careful...I wouldn't gobble on public lands.

What time and channel does that show air?

Would love to learn to how to BOOM GOBBLE!

Fantastic!!!

Caution has to be used, it could and will open up dangerous paths if used in the wrong places at the wrong time.

However, one thing that is enjoyable to me, since I am mean spirited. I love nothing more then to hear someone coming down a road or ATV trail driving 200 yards, stopping owl hooting/crow calling, and moving on their way. Nothing more fun then to throw a couple of good gobbles back at them, and turn to vacate the area as they climb the mountain side to get to that eager gobbler, as I head out the other direction. Not the safest thing in the world by any means, but a little redemption for folks like me who hike miles and miles without hearing vehicles roaring all over disturbing the peace. Nothing personal against the drive by folks, but hopefully some lessons have been learned along the way.

I don't gobble. I don't want some jo-shmo comming sneaking into my set up. It's bad enough making hen calls and having people sneak up on you, much less gobbling. I've heard of people killing boss gobblers that way, but I've never done it.

Let me get this strait. You said in your previous post that this (gobbling) could be a little dangerous. Then your gonna post some BS about how you like to screw with people and gobble back at them trying to locate birds? Your asking for trouble no doubt. But hey to each is own I guess.

i use a tube call quite a bit and have had alot of success with it. I tend to use the tube and tune it to sound like a jake. You set out some hen calls followed by a Jake gobble and man it can DRIVE A BIG BOY CRAZY...

I have only done it when I can see the people. I hunt alot in reclaimed strip mine country where folks drive gravel roads locating birds, when I have screwed folks I am up the mtn from them, and can see every move they make. Perfectly safe if done correctly, and very funny as well.

I've used a gobble tube to jake gobble but have never had success. I've also been way leary after using it. I only turkey hunt on private land and let me tell you, THAT DON'T MATTER. Last year I had a man and about a 12 year old boy bump a gobbler from me. I heard him start putting and he flew off. 2 minutes later I see them trying to crawl into position 75 yds from me at the corner of the field. I stand up to go ask them what they are doing on my land. He was sorry but was wanting to get his boy a bird. Too kind-hearted me let him go with kind words cause he had the boy with him. I didn't want to cause a rucous in front of him.

Point is, people come to gobbles and don't care about propery boundries

you havve be careful calling anyway (hen or gobble). ive had people creep up on me while yelping on more than once.

I use a Primos shaker gobbler call quite a bit. But only on private land and even then I let all other hunters on land know I'm using it. I have called a gobbler 400 yds across an open field with it alone. However, unfortunately all I did was to educate the bird, I missed. Ray
