I have my 870 20ga at the gunsmith now to get drilled and tapped with the Burris 336 mount.

Just got a call that the gunsmith will not drill and tap to that mount because it is just going to break off.

I told him that is the mount that I was told to get for the 870.
He advised that the 336 mount is for a flat top and the 870 is kinda tapered and that I will need to get a different mount.

Help?

Re: who has mounted a Bussis FF on their 870?

I have had one mounted on one of my 870sm's.... with an 870 base....

Some peope use the 336 mount because it is a little lower profile so the sight sits a little lower.... I would guess they had their gun drilled & tapped to that hole pattern.... and it does use bigger screws I believe.

If it were factory D&T'ed.... I would only use an 870 base... I mean how much is 1/4" higher really going to make..

In your case... if you want to go with the 336 mount for the lower profile.... tell him to just D&T the gun with the proper hole spacing and you will handle the rest.... Then you can basically bed the base to the top of the receiver....

Otherwise have him D&T it to the factory Remington specs and I can suggest to you the perfect base to get.... however it won't have the FF sight at the same height as using the 336 base.

Think I'm just going to pick it up from and and try another gunsmith.

Anybody know of a gunsmith around the Memphis, Tn area?

I have 2 870's with 336 mounts and burris FF's with no problems at all. It will work it is not like the sight weighs a pound they are too light to break the screws in my opinion.
