who is looking inside the crop of their fall birds? figure I will learn some about their habits.
4 birds on opening day (2 hens and 2 jake poults) - all were called off a cow farm and all were mostly full of small green grass seeds of some type. for some reason, only the jake poults had acorns, and they were all chinkapin. there were chinkapins downhill in the woods.
gobbler on thursday was feeding in a small bachelor group/flock in the middle of a cut corn field. Crop contained mostly corn and greenery, and at least one chinkapin acorn. the oak trees were just up the trail we came down on and saw some fresh scratch, so I am sure those birds had just been there.
Not sure how this will help in the future, but figure it's some good info to know.
