Why are some scopes clockwise and others not?

Since I've been shooting long range prone, I've learned to adjust my turrets without looking to see which way is up/down and which way is left/right. The way I remember is it's like turning a bolt with RH threads. Counterclockwise is up or right and clockwise is down or left. It's easy because everyone knows lefty loussy Or righty tighty. But then I was looking at another scope that's opposite. That's a deal breaker for me. Why are they different? Nothing worse than going the wrong way and your off target.

because europeans are backwards.

I agree, and then they cater to us by making scopes with MOA and 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch increments. They also make some of the best glass unfortunately.

I always figured they do it on purpose. Every Friday they gather in the local beer joint and have a bunch of tall ones on us.
