Why Do They Do What They Do?

For lack of a place to hunt I haven't turkey hunted in a few years but over the years that I did I noticed one thing consistent with turkeys and that was their inconsistency at doing some of the things they did from day to day. They may roost in the same area or even trees for days in a row. They may fly down in the same direction daily. They may hit a strutting zone around the same time for days in a row..... Or not. The main thing I noticed was that from one day to the next with each day seemingly being the same as the previous day weather and temperature wise and with the same birds in a given area they may gobble their heads off one day and go totally silent the next. I never kept any kind of records so possibly there may have been a difference in wind speed or direction or barometric pressure or something else. I know deer movement can be related to influences like that. Has anyone been able to come up with any remote idea of why they may be so verbal one day and silent the next?

No, but they have tried and will even offer their opinion.

The predictable unpredictability is what makes the battles so challenging.

I do know that, at least in my experiences, a cool, clear, windless morning with relatively low humidity produces a good gobbling morning.

Tomorrow looks perfect, btw ;) :D !
