To start with i shoot a 20 gauge, always have and always will, dont see the use to shoot a 12 gauge or bigger, but anyway, I've shot federal heavy weight #7 and heavy shot heavy13's #5 for two years now. YES THEY DO SHOOT TWICE AS GOOD AS LEAD BUT, i just dont see anymore to pay 4 to 5 dollars a shell to kill a turkey and i really cant afford to, with that being said what lead turkey loads do you guys use in your 20 gauges that produce good enough patterns out to 30 to 35 yards. My gun, which is a charles daly 20 gauge semi-auto, 26 inch barrel, shoots winchester super xx magnums #6's pretty good, what do you guys shoot. I have a guy that i can get reloads from to, probably would be better that factory loads anyway, around $14.00 a box of 25, loaded with 4's, 5's, or 6's

Well, I think I understand your perspective, but to answer your topic question, "Why HTL loads and not lead?" . . . . . . .

Considering how few I should shoot annually, the cost difference may be less than the cost of gas for a single hunting trip, so in this case, the cost of the shells is a small factor. It's not like we're shooting cases of them dove or duck hunting.

The HTL loads probably provide a minimum of an extra 5 yards range. So my question is "why not?"

For a 20 gauge, I believe the Federal Heavyweight #7's are significantly superior to anything else being offered commercially, so that's why I use them. Why not?

Why not? Just like i said, 4 to 5 dollars a shell is crazy, 20 to 25 dollars for 5 rounds of ammo. The only reason i started shooting them was i couldn't find a lead round that would shoot good enough to hunt with. And i really dont want to buy a 12 gauge...

I have no idea where you're coming from :D .

I shoot 3" #6 Nitro's out of my 20 gauge. I never hunt with it, but it patterns well.

you just answered your question as to why people pay the extra money for them. they pattern outstanding and perform even better.
