I help put on one of the 3 -d shoots in Memphis. Besides the heat like this weekend why don't more guys/girls shoot 3-D? would like an honest opinion as I'm trying to see if we are just missing something or maybe there is only a small percentage of bowhunters that shoot during the summer any more.

I never have shot a 3-d shoot. The biggest thing for me is there are very few close to me and sometimes I don't even know about them until they have already happened.

I shot my first one last month at Old Hickory and have gotten hooked! I've been shooting archery for awhile now and have just had any interest in 3D. To be honest, I actually felt it was a waste of time because I have all of the room and targets in my backyard I need. However, the fellowship of shooting beside fellow archers is alot of fun and the pressure of competition among friends is great practice for when you HAVE to make that one shot. Plus shooting unknown ranges is challenging at the same time! Can't wait for the all deer shoot in less than two weeks!

there was a time we were at a 3D shoot somewhere every weekend. interest dropped off drastically the last few years and eagles wings finally had to close the doors :(

I shot at one of y'all's 3D shoots about a month ago. It was a good shoot, but I got eaten alive by chiggers and it was hotter'n a four-balled tomcat. I think the oppressive heat is a factor. The main reason for lack of interest is lack of notice. If it weren't for this website, I would not have known about it. With Shelby Forest, Everything Archery, and Avery, as well as Bass Pro, here in Memphis,I would use them to help get the word out. I'm not criticizing, I'm just saying why I think there are not as many participants. Also, I don't think people know what a typical 3D shoot is. I know I envisioned audiences watching me shoot when in reality, it's nothing like that unless it's a big-time shoot for pros. I thought y'all had nice targets and realistic situations, but I would have loved to see some longer shots. My buddy has a little course in his backyard and he has really mixed it up with some close shots and longer shots. Some of his targets are at known distances and some are 3D. This makes it fun and it never gets boring or stale. Use some creativity and I think word will spread. Check out Bowcast at the Bird and see what they have done. Not to say you have to have crazy 100 yard mountainous terrain shots, but give folks something different and they will be more likely to come out. JMHO.

Ive never shot 3D in Tennessee, but I will make it a point to do so when ever it is I get back there. Really got into it this past year (shot about 40 or 50 of them sometimes 3 a weekend) and have improved my shooting a bunch. like it was stated above I have room and targets at home, but theres nothing really like going to a 2 or 3 day shoot setting up camp and finding your buddys or making new ones to shoot with. You really can learn alot about the sport of bow hunting just by going and talking to people. Plus its fun to go and rag on the Matthews guys when you out shoot them. LOL had to toss that in there.

thanks for all the input.Poser sorry about no one getting back to you. We have a new board so hopefully those type of things won't happen again. the next shoot is 9/12 at herb parson.all the hunter class stakes are hunting situations so there is no need to have a set up other than for hunting.soddy thanks for the input. We will try to mix it up a little more next year especialy from the open stakes . The last shoot will mostly be hunting type shots getting ready for the real thing.
