Still learning but is there reasons for birds gobbling like crazy one day and the next nothing. I know there here. They didn't make a sound on the roost but gobbled once when hit the ground then nothing. They gobbled like crazy at everything yesterday. Been sitting on the highest point and haven't heard one since 10 til 7. No wind and sunny skies might I add.

Because they are turkeys

Nailed it.

They re birds and trying to find logic in them and what they do is pointless. Take each day as its own day

Nobody knows, the turkeys themselves don't know.
In my experience, the best gobbling is on pretty, cool, high pressure days. But sometimes it don't work out that way.

I've often wondered if birds get tired from running hens around if they are warnout and resting? Like we do some days.

There are lots of theories about when they gobble and when they don't. My research has proven nothing. They gobble when they want to in my opinion. No rhyme or reason.

Where are the turkey whisperers? They should be able to tell you, at least that is what I have been reading on here. Granted they want tell you, instead they will tell you to do homework[emoji14]

In my few short years of hunting these critters from Southern Alabama to South Dakota I have determined one thing, nothing is constant with them. Weather, pressure, moon, time of year, etc, etc, etc....no rhyme or reason. Days I think no way they will be fired up due to previous experience they prove me wrong, vice versa on days I think they should be hot and ready.

Throats get sore...... :poke:

That is exactly what Harold told me one time.

Who knows, but I have seen a lot of every other day gobbling over the years. This year it has been almost totally shutmouth on one day and some decent gobbling the next for me.

Actually, "Throats get sore . . . ." may be a very valid explanation, at least some of the time.

A friend of mine who regularly fishes with one of the best (and best known) fishermen of the South recently asked, "Why is it that one day we tear up the bass, and the next day can't get a hit?"

The answer: "They got full."

Everything has some element of "cycle" to it, regardless of whether we can figure out why or just when.
But is sure makes some sense that a very content Tom turkey might feel less need to be gobbling his head off, just like a bass that's spent the last day filling his stomach with shad might not want anything to eat the next day.

That's what I was thinking! Where are they? Lol

Like all have said, they are turkeys being turkeys.
Just when you think you have them figured out they will prove you wrong.

Funny how my homework post was put out to only specific member, catman, but you can't let it go. I did not tell you to do your homework, I told catman. Why him, because he is a sportsman and I see by his post he has desire as a young man to learn and be a good steward to our future. Those types don't mind doing their homework to be better. But you, NO, all you are is know it all already. That's why I didn't post directly to you. Now, you got a problem with that, PM me. Don't make smart a$$ remarks. A lot of folks on here with more years than we been alive. Listen the them, and shut up!

No one here can tell you what's going on with your population in your area without knowing it. I know my population and flock on my places, I see the forecast, and I know what I have learned by watching them so far this spring. Thus the reason I am on vacation the next 6 days.. Time for me to get serious.

I dont have a problem with you at all, actually I dont remember specifically mentioning you, that is unless of course you are the "turkey whisperer"?

It does seem your sensitive to a joke, for that I apologize, not for the joke of course but for touching a nerve I didnt know I was looking for.

The only thing I know for sure about turkeys is that I know nothing for sure about turkeys. That's what I always tell my nephew when he asks why a turkey doe's something we didn't plan on.
