Will this hold up?

I took the buckle straps off my climbing sticks and went with 8mm rope mod, but I noticed the tag end would flop all over while in transit. I looked on YouTube and seen a guy that uses a nail and punches a hole all the way through, then uses elastic cord tied in a know to secure the tag end. But I don't have any kind of torch so I couldn't heat the nail enough.
My idea was using fishing line, tied a knot then wrapped many times, then heat shrink wrapped.
Will it work and break before the end of season?
This is not for climbing, just transit.

It's only during transport there won't be any weight on them, just trying to find a way to keep it clean and tight on the walk in/out. Any other ideas?

It will work. (Assuming you are talking about using the elastic for rope storage during transport, not for climbing).

One other thing you might mess with too- wrap a small fishing sinker right at the end of the rope under the shrink wrap. It will make it way easier to swing the end of the rope around the tree with a rope mod. It really helped me with bigger trees when I was using them
