I tested some Win Xtended Range 13/4oz 6's, and I don't understand what happened.

Benelli SBE (the old one) with a Rhino .673. It's picky. Only load it really shines with is the Nitro 4/5/7's. With the Win Xtended I printed 87 pellets in 10 inches at 40 yds. It was a really pretty pattern, nice and round, even spread, probably printed 90% in 30 inches just like a good duck load should.

I don't expect 1 3/4oz of 6/s to pattern like 2oz of blend...but still, I expected better than this.

Any theories?

If you shoot the Win Xtended 6's, what choke do you use and what pellet count do you get? I know some folks are getting great results out of them.

I never had luck with Win Xtended Range rounds in my Moss 935. I shot 'em at the range through 3 different chokes and wasn't truly satisfied. But I figured for the price I paid, they must be good shells. Shot at a bird at 40 yards, darn thing barely flinched and ran off. After that, no more Xtended range for my gun. Switched to Hevi Mag-Blends and had a completely different experience.

The moral of the story...try as many different shells/chokes combos and shoot as much as possible. You'll be glad you made the investment.

wish i knew the answer, I never could get them to pattern GREAT but the best i was ever able to do with them was with a Jelly Head 655.

I to shoot a benelli bore so from what i have asked and learned on them, they really tend to like chokes in the 640-660 range so it may just be the choke and construction you are using. Having said that there is more to a choke then the exit diameter which is what most people get caught up on but it COULD be part of the issue with the Xtended range.

I shot the XR 3.5 6's through an 870sm with a .660 jellyhead and could only get 150 in 10@40. I got 250+ with Hevi 6's. Some folks love them. They didn't do it for me.

Well too, the Winchester XR are 2oz loads, the Hevi are 2.25oz loads.... in the 3.5" that is....

Keep in mind though, .25oz is way less than 100 pellets.... I'd say it has more to do with the pressures and velocity of the shell.... But that's why I hunt with 2.25oz loads... I want as many pellets going downrange as possible... it only takes one, but the more, the better!!

The Rhino is too open for the extended range try a .660. I one of the old SBE and the only thing i use the Rhino .673 for is Nitro for all else I use Kick's GT.660 and it does great. However I do not like the extended range shells either, I prefer Hevi-13 5s or Mag Blend. Nitros have gotten too high for me.

i shoot the win ex range 6's 3.5" out of my mossberg 835 with factory extra full choke. Ole TOM TOM better not break that 60 yd mark.

Thanks. I have a Kicks...it's either a .660 or a .665...I'll try that, and with the Hevi-13's too. I have 6 or 8 old Nitro's to shoot up, then I'm going to something cheaper, too.

Not sure I would shoot HTL loads through a Kicks
JMO

Why?? I have been doing it for years....

Kicks Chokes recommends lead only and not htl
I saw a pic of a guy who shot nitro's out of a mossy and kicks
it was not pretty. Although nitro's are alot hotter than hevi

Kick's and Comp N Choke both owned by Charlie Boswell has had a deal with Winchester for years. That is why they dont recommend Heve-shot. All started when Nitro and Rhino first teamed up. If anyone remembers Nitro used to only recommend Rhino chokes, that has since changed...

I have a remington 870 super mag,.. so can't say what it will do in your gun,.. but in my remington with a 660 jellyhead i get 145 pellets in a 9 inch styrofoam plate with the Xtended range. Far better than what i got with hevy 13 6's. I also the 3 inch,.. not 3.5 inch. I read an article some years back on the internet comparing many different shells and the 3 inch patterened better and penetrated better with the 3 inch over the 3.5 at 50 yards. SO,.. that is what i used and i can't complain.

I would like to try the hevy 7's in my gun,.. not a fan of blends,.. but the straight 7's i would try. BUT,. just to high for me. The Xtended range gives me the result i need at the range i want them in and a cost i can live with. I don't need 60 yard shells,.. if i did, i would go back home and work on my calling instead of my shooting!!
