Windy days

I prefer hollows sheltered from the wind, just because I'm more likely to hear them talking back... but wind does not seem to phase turkeys... I've seen them on exposed ridge tops in 20mph winds almost blowing them around when they fan out, yet they act like nothing is amiss. It IS very tough to hear them if they are downwind, and tough for them to hear you calling if they are upwind.

I've had birds on multiple occasions coming to me from downwind and I could watch them gobble at 50-75 yards, yet I couldn't even hear the gobble.

Windy day is good for slip hunting and trying to ambush or reap one. Cover lots of ground and scout as you go.

I've seen that also Mega. It's neat watching them stretch that neck out gobbling their heads off but not being able to hear them. I've had the wind spinning them in circles as they strutted across a field.

For those that hate wind, I assume you avoid hunting out West for Mountain Merriam's? Since hunting out there I can tolerate the wind here, but usually the hunting sucks.

I hate wind for deer, turkey, floating on the lake, just about everything. But sometimes there's a little calm between the gusts, or the wind may die down later in the afternoon. It's worth trying
