You're probably thinking what the heck...wisdom teeth and turkey hunting?

I had an impacted wisdom tooth (lower right) removed last Friday thinking it would have at least 3 weeks to heal before pulling the trigger in April. Well, anyone who's had a lower pulled knows that socket sit right on the stock when the gun goes boom. Probably should have waited till after the season but it was causing some problems and needed to be addressed. Still got some time before the TN opener but otherwise looks like I'll be shooting left handed this year.

Good luck! I know how that pain feels. May want to try and shoot lefty a couple times. I'd look like I'd never shot a gun before

Both my bottom wisdoms teeth were impacted. In three weeks you should not even know that they were pulled.

Man, you don't know how good that is to hear. I was hoping someone might chime in on how long it might take.

Mouthpiece problem solved. If you have owned a 835 you prob have one laying around lol
:rotf:

Boy, do they kick. Almost as bad as my 300 Weatherby mag. I haven't shot that gun without feeling the scope on my eyebrow...and that's sitting in a caldwell. The 835 is a mule for sure!

I had an appointment Tuesday to get all 4 cut out but the virus has them shut down till at least March 31. She rescheduled April 1 but told her to move it till after the middle of May. Having that many removed I wasnt taking a chance of getting an infection that close to Turkey season!

On side note, how bad is the pain and how long did it last

I hope your case is not like mine but the extraction took WAY longer than anticipated, and the pain far greater than is typical. The tooth was impacted, and laying at about a 45 degree angle forward. Pain the first 36 hours after the sedation and anesthesia wore off was the worst I've ever experienced. Ever. I was out of it sitting in the wheelchair so only vaguely recall the oral surgeon handing my wife a slip of paper. He told her, "Get this prescription filled...the pain is likely to be severe." It was for 12 hydrocodone tablets...opiates.

I tried like heck not to take one simply because they're narcotics and the risks are well documented. I don't recall the dosage but adhering to the instructions on the bottle needed 3 over that first 36 hour period. The pain was that bad. After that though, acetaminophen and ice packs managed the pain. The right side of my face looks nearly normal today and pain is no worse than 2 on a scale of 1-10.

Hope your surgery goes well and good call waiting until after turkey season.

Oh man that sounds rough! I have one impacted that I can barely see. It's growing at a 45 like yours. It killed me for about 3 days a month or so ago but hasn't bothered me since. There is zero room for the other 3 according to the xray. They are basically growing under the molars but slightly behind and at an angle. Wished I had them done when I was young when they first recommended.

He recommended getting all 4 taken out at once to get it over with. He said I would hurt for a few days but i didn't believe him lol. A woman I know said she'd rather have another hysterectomy than have them cut out again

Heck yours may come right with no problem too. Some folks say they were in and out in 30 minutes, walking the mall the next day, and eating solid food with no issue. That first day I ate creamed corn by hand 1 kernal at a time, protein drink, and applesauce. :bash:

I had one pulled and 3 cut out. Wish they coulda all been pulled as I was fine with the pull, and was down about 3 or 4 days after the extraction and was sore for probably a year or longer.

Had all four of mine cut/pulled (2 were impacted, 2 weren't) 2 days before season opened back in mid-90's. I don't remember the recoil hurting near as much as that mouth call touching the open sockets did but I was also in my 20s then and full of piss and vinegar. Take it easy and make sure not to get infected and if you have the opportunity to shoot you probably won't even remember the recoil.

Should have plenty of time to heal up before season. I seem to remember feeling better after a couple days and I'd say I was back to 100% by the one week mark. I can't remember how many of mine were impacted, maybe all 4? At least a couple.
Had to visit a friend who is a dentist to remove a piece the periodontist left behind! I thought it was one of the stitches, and he pulled out a fairly good sized chunk of tooth.
Anyway, you should be ship shape but take care of it like they say, if you get dry sockets that may set you back.

PS this was how I quit dipping. I was right at a can a day and thought wisdom teeth removal was an opportune time to try & kick that habit.

That is my plan. I'm more of a can every 4 days. Never a heavy user but I'm getting to the age I need to make better life choices.

No two wisdom teeth are the same. But typically speaking people tend to heal slowly for a couple of days then much quicker once the blood clot can dehydrate and the epithelium covers the extraction site. Avoiding irritants (cigarette smoke, Listerine, dip) helps those new fragile skin cells close in. Rinsing with warm salt water can help. Barring multiple bouts of dry sockets you should be good to go in 3 weeks. Good luck healing. I am a Dentist who extracts lots of wisdom teeth.

Sometimes "miss it" but it was definitely the right call.
