For these WMAs, is there anything special you need to have (add'l access permit, etc) or know, to hunt them?

1. North Cumberland WMA
2. North Cherokee NF & WMA
3. South Cherokee WMA

I have my lifetime license and was wondering if I could just show up, park and go hunt like "most" WMAs.

Your are good to go, Andy! :)

Truly believe you'll enjoy the change of scenery.
Might want to have a can of bear spray on your belt,
but other than that, just go enjoy the hunting of these vast areas.

At least you want need chest waders to get to that gobbling bird!

Also, if you're not accustomed to hunting in mountainous regions,
you'll need to be careful in some different kinds of ways,
especially when walking in/out an area in the dark.

There are plenty of places where a step or two too far can drop you off a cliff.
Can be worse than just going over your boots in the West TN marshlands.

I live in E.TN, killed my first turkey in Cherokee NF on 4-1-1990. If I could only tackle those mountains like I could when I was 19 again :) . What counties you planning on hunting, I live in Cocke, last stop before NC on I40.

My wife and I went to go see some friends in Chattanooga a couple years ago, and I would sneak away in the mornings and hunt South Cherokee. I never heard the first gobble in 3 mornings of hunting, but I did see 4 bears so it was worth the trip. If you want some info on where not to go I can help you out! hahaha.

I've threatened to do this myself. It would be as drastic a change of scenery/approach from West TN as any out of state hunt, but no additional license required.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Not sure if this is something I will get to do this spring, but it has been on my radar for over 5 years. I am doing the research now so if the opportunity does arise, I can bolt, arrive and be legal. Thanks again for the feedback.

Also consider some of the large public lands on the northern plateau. I could help you there through PM.

The nice thing about these locations is that you can just throw a cot in the back of your truck and pretty much "camp" wherever you end up. A small stove, a camp chair and you'll be good to go.

Thanks for the generous offers gentlemen. I will reach out to each of you if my plans ever come to fruition.
