Out of the surrounding states which wma do you like best for turkey hunting and why? I am looking into getting a hunt in before Tennessee's season starts.

Thanks

Simply look when other states open and go for it, the problem with early seasons are the birds do not seem very vocal.

I hunt Alabama every year when it opens in mid March. We have ok luck but more than anything its nice to head south to a bit warmer weather, camp, hunt and relax. Its usually chilly in the mornings but typically warms up during the day which makes hanging out at camp nice.

I'm going to Alabama on a hunt/camp trip on public land, just haven't finalized a place yet. Guess I'll just go in blind. Maybe Talladega NF or Choccoloco WMA. Ideas anyone?

Im headed to a WMA just outside of Montgomery on opening weekend. They have hogs and some birds, I have hunted many of the WMA's in AL and sadly early season the birds are not vocal (at least the last 2 years they have not been). We usually set up camp, hunt till noon then head back to camp and cook and drink frosty beverages then repeat the next day. I have been into birds every year, hunter pressure is not too bad and the weather is usually nice a couple of the days. Your more than welcome to join us, PM me if you want.

Camping/turkey hunting trips are cheap and easy to plan. Plus camping weather is usually perfect (unless it rains).
