Yes I have advice, if you get it in time.
First, Have a GOOD TIME!!!
Secondly, this is one race where I don't think earplugs are a necessity. THese cars stay bunched up, and in a pack, so usually, they are not a constant heavy noise.
But, I say your most important thing to bring is Radio HEADSETS... They are different in scanners in that you can't hear the drivers and crews but you can hear what's going on during the race the whole time. Scanners can be confusing to newcomers, no offense. And you only get to hear their conversation, which may be laps of nothing in between. A radio scanner is cheap (usually $20ish), you find the right station, and viola, you can listen to the race the whole time while you watch it. Without a radio, you'll see all the people asking each other "why did he pit? Why did he hit the wall? Why did he slow down? Why is JR always againt the wall?"
Secondly,
Coolers.
If this is your first race, you have to decide on things, like food and drink. If its just the 2 of you, you may very well be ok buying the overly priced concessions at the track. Be AWARE you are allowed a cooler each which holds 6 cans of beer (but also sammiches!!!!!!!!!!!!) Check the website for exact dimensions, if you wish to save around $40.
The race.
If your new to this, you need someone to route for.
It can NOT be #88!!!!!!!!!!
He has enough fans.
But believe it or not, if you pick a car or driver, and your wife picks one also, it can make even a boring race (I DON'T think it will be) much more exciting. Just make a friendly or dirty wager on who's car will beat the others. Ya'll may be intently watching the 17th position most of the night, who knows.
Prepare to walk. Prepare for rain!!!
I go to most of the Daytona 500's and the rule is park pretty close, and walk a long ways and get home LATE. As long as we remember this, we never get frustrated. Wet seats stink to. Bring a couple of those ponchos that fit into your pocket. Afternoon thunderstorms are pletiful in FL this time of year, but can be quick and gone, but coming back to a wet seat sucks. So bring a pocket poncho (size of a deck of cards), even if you just put in onto your seat after a quick rain.
If you have run ins with drunkards, just remember that you'll always be better than them, and laugh it off. They'll always be lower, and most likely be #88 or 20fans
.
Congrats on your tickets, this is a HOT race to go to!!!!!
I think it's second or third to Bristol's night race, you have a lot of people jealous. Enjoy it!
