I have actually killed a bird this year but we haven't heard a bird gobble since the first week of season, there have been years that I haven't killed anything but I would at least hear and see occasional birds, this year since the first week it's been completely dead, it's getting hard to get up and go.

Re: Worst season I can remember

Tn was rough at first but got crazy when I found a pocket of birds and killed 3 in just a handful of days. Places that have always been great are empty and the population continues to plummet where I hunt unfortunately. Amazingly a half a mile away over the KY border birds are plentiful and I took my 2 KY birds in the first two days and heard uncountable numbers each day

The downward spiral of turkey hunting in this state is staggering. Glad we've got some real sharp folks making the rules who really understand what's going on in our woods

Amazing that the soil is so much better on the KY side. ;)
We just can't have many birds here in TN, just don't have the soil.

Interestingly, this has been one of the worst seasons so far for me personally in many years, but it doesn't seem to be for a lack of turkeys (or longbeards). For whatever reasons, just seems I've been "unlucky", although the amount of gobbling I've heard has been almost none.

Re: Worst season I can remember

They are finally beginning to work and gobble good here, missed yesterday and killed this morning!

Re: Worst season I can remember

Birds are just now starting to play. They gobbled good til it got super hot around noon on Tuesday. Birds in my area still have hens. The hens are leaving the gobblers only for a short while to lay an egg. Once they start nesting in about a week it will hit a peak.

I have been saying it for years, KY soils simply produce better hunting results.

Re: Worst season I can remember

It's been good for me so far. Heard gobbling on every hunt, but one. My brother said now he birds are showing up on his place in Wilson county and they don't seem to have hens with them anymore.

My nephew missed his first tome at 10 yds. unfortunately he froze up after the miss instead of reloading and shooting him in the back of the head as he ran away.

I hope ya'lls seasons get better.

saw this on FB and thought I'd share....

Re: Worst season I can remember

My worst year as well bird numbers are down way down. I even picked up a honey hole in the past years only to not even hear a single bird in it this year. Crazy what's going on in my season so far worst yet. Regulations IMO needs to be adjusted. And fall season needs to come to an end.

Re: Worst season I can remember

No gobbling here but we've managed to kill several. It's pretty much impossible from daylight til noon and then it gets better. We got there Monday at 1 and my wife killed at 1:45. He worked good.

Re: Worst season I can remember

There are plenty of birds here in mid TN. Been quiet a lot, but have had a few good days especially as it warmed back up.
