Where'd all the dead turkey posts go? Are folks still hunting or are all the turkeys kilt already or what? Seems like last week there was multiple dead turkey posts daily but it looks to have slowed a good bit. Could it possibly be an early indicator of the HUGE spike in kills the first few days?

I needed two more steps yesterday to feel comfortable, which didn't happen. He moved off and was gone. This was public and I think he grew suspicious not seeing a hen where the soft calling had come from.

Saturday i was amongst them and had a classic duel with a hen that was at my 9:00 while two gobblers were going nuts at my 12:00. They moved closer, she went to them, game over as they went to adjacent property. In hindsight, I should have tried to run her off I guess.

This morning was DEAD.

I needed some sleep. 8 days straight of 11pm to bed and 4:30am wake up time was starting to wear pretty hard on me. The weather and cold helped in that decision lo..

Got another yesterday just have not posted it. No way I quit this early, It has been cold the last two mornings but they are still doing their thing! Good luck to all!

I finally called in my first bird this morning, started hearing some gobbling after they hit the ground. I was pretty pumped that I actually called him in from the next ridge over it was over an hour of cat and mouse but he came in to 20 yds. But my mistake was not setting up on top of the point he got just a lil higher than me and got nervous but gave me some confidence.

My plan was to hunt until 1 but Mother Nature hit with a vengeance on the chilly morning and barely made it to the car at about 10.

I had the red dot on him and will probably regret it but I want my first turkey to be a lil bit better. But I enjoyed the pretty morning.

man I can barely do 2 or 3 days of sleep deprivation and then I gotta get my beauty sleep. Well actually I keep hunting but I sleep in the woods a lot more.

what do you mean by that? Sounds like a perfect turkey if you called him in to 20 and had the dot on his head!

He was pretty small, and It is probably stupidity, but I've still got plenty of time left. That just gave me the bug even more..

Been calling some in for others in Virginia. Went to Tenn this morning. Cold and windy but struck a bird at 1030. Had to be back at the truck no later than 11 so didn't get to play

6 days straight in south MS, close to 35 miles covered, and I haven't struck a bird, nor cut a gobbler track. I did get a hen to blow up in full strut in front of me when I challenged her too close to her nest, that was pretty cool!

Its getting personal for me, I really want my 3rd bird to finish the season on Desoto.

Started the season off quick with kills last Sunday and Tuesday. Hiked 9.29 miles on Tuesday to get that bird, but he was worth every step. Was not for sure if I was ever going to make it back to the truck! This week has been a different story though. They have whooped up on me pretty good. Just gonna keep going every chance I can get!

I'm still hunting most days when I can. Killed 2 over opening weekend. But, have only called in 6 jakes since. At least that's the birds that I know of. Had 2 birds coming in Yesterday morning and a coyote ran them off. But, yeah, still out there swinging. :super:

I've only been out twice and got a bird both outings. Very fortunate for that lol, but working 6 days a week I ain't had much time to hunt. Took a day for tomorrow to go with my dad. Hoping we can lay one down if not i don't care, I'm just going to spend some time with him.

Jake??? If a Jake acts like a big boy he's gonna get treated like one when he comes into me. I don't go out hunting Jake's but if he gobbled and comes to a call which rarely ever happens to me he's going home with me. I think I have killed 2 Jake's in 10 years of hunting.

I think I'm lost... Did you do something wrong or??? That sounds like a perfect turkey hunt. Some people (not saying you and mean no offense whatsoever) watch too much YouTube. They want a perfect turkey hunt. It rarely happens that way. If you called him into 20, you won the game whether he saw you when he hit the 20yrd mark or not. That's the game and you said check mate...

I have a guy that works with my Dad like I mentioned above. Has killed two nice birds but hasn't been excited at all. Said they just really didn't impress him none cause they didn't attack his decoys and only gobbled twice... I just shook my head and walked off. Take it, this is also the same guy who sent my Dad a pic last yr ad a gobbler who had a full fan and looked like a VW Beatle walking across the field, with a caption that read "Wish he was Bigger" cause he only had a nub of a bear due to rot. The turkey had 1.5" spurs tho...

10-4. I haven't been able to hunt since Saturday due to work commitments but seeing the steep decline in dead turkey posts made me curious as to what might be going on in the woods.

Could've had another down today but he caught us off guard. Before we could get turned on him he was gone lol. Told my dad I heard him coming and by that point it was too late.
