The resent threads about camo have reminded me about something thats been at the top of my list for 2 seasons.

I've been on the lookout for my (favorite) blaze orange/ camo pattern for the last 2 seasons.

Bought several but just can't find 1 that fits me.

What's yours? Info on places to purchase alway a plus!

I like the orange vest from Walmart that is $5. It fits over a t shirt when it's 90 degrees, and still fits over 4 layers of clothes when it's 15 degrees. Hard to get more versatile than that

I've got 2 of them and totally agree with the versatile & pricing. Mine zip and are 2x bigger for covering layers as well.

I guess I'm like most mentally fell more incognito to deer and myself with some type of pattern
breakup. Zipper is a must for putting on after adding layer when I'm done hiking and climbing a tree.

Really feeling remisinant of what I used 40ish years ago as a youth and they just don't seem to make that pattern anymore.

I like an orange vest that I can utilize in some additional way. So, I use one with lots of pockets. I keep hunting stuff in them and I leave that stuff in the pockets always. Like things I know I will need when I get to the woods - flashlight, strap that goes around tree for safety harness, caps for muzzleloader, extra rounds during gun season, lightweight gloves, etc. That way, when I put that vest on in the morning, everything I need to get settled in my treestand is at hand and the pockets are pretty much empty while I'm in the tree. I used to wear the Primos gun hunter vest...but, it's a little bulky and heavy. In recent years, I switched to a Cabela's brand. As far as camo pattern on my orange vest - It doesn't matter to me. The Primos one only comes in plain orange. I took a sharpie marker and made my own camo pattern on it.

Ain't that important to me. I've been wearing some mossy oak orange vest I bought a few years ago, I think from Walmart. It's solid blaze orange with a couple pockets. Works for me.

I use a solid color blaze orange upland vest. Has plenty of pockets that I can put my gloves, facemask, cap, etc in and leave it there. No looking for them when I get ready to go. The game vest on the back is handy also for carrying things you never need. lol

I have been wearing one like this for years and really like it.

A hat only likely contains about 100–150 square inches of material, so you cannot wear only a hat. A vest will usually contain from 500–800 square inches of material. A jacket or shirt will usually have more than 1,000 square inches of material.

A small 24 x 15 vest would have 360 in front and 360 in back. If 40% was camo, then 432 inches would be orange.

I think the orange is more about making hunters look silly and helping warden see you than safety anyway.

I carry bags of oranges 450 of them hanging over the front and back of my shoulders. And 50 of them on the top of my head in a smaller bag. Man it's been tough walking these mountains like that. Now that the regs have been explained a little better. That should lighten the load a bunch. Lol just joking of course. I can't find a orange camp vest anywhere. I did find a camo orange hat at Walmart the other day and bought a couple different designs.

I wear one I prob paid less than $2 for. Can wad it up and stick it in a cargo pocket if I want. Solid orange and keeps me alive. Never spooked a deer that I thought the vest was responsible for. And an orange tndeer hat.

For those worried about the 500 sq" rule I have a couple of Orange Neck Gaiters that I really like for versatility.1 lite weight for warm weather and fleece for the really cold days. You can pull them up and put a hat over them .

I have an old Cabela's camo vest that I have worn for a very long time. Has plenty of pockets and I love it. Can't remember the pattern to save my life. Lol. I have it on in my profile pic I'm pretty sure.

TN regs are 500 square inches and to include a hat and vest. But none required if hunting on landowner exemption or during archery season.
Slow your roll there TNGunsmoke, what you said is true but not totally accurate. Here in northeast Tennessee, wearing blaze orange is actually required for the early part of archery season that just happens to overlap with bear season.

Good point.

Although not required, imo you're wise to wear at least an orange cap when squirrel or rabbit hunting.

It's also a good idea to have an orange cap with you anytime you're bowhunting, as you can wear it tracking a deer, coming & going, and/or just put it on if you see another hunter coming your way while you're on stand.
