My son wants to start bow hunting and I would like to get him something fast and quite enough to actually kill a deer with.I don't know what to start him off with and wanted to get a little info before I went shopping. Any help would be great how do I find his draw length?

martin used to make a good bow that he could grow with.cant think of the name its been a while. you could change drawl length as he grows.depends on what you want to spend to.

that diamond razor edge bow is an investment if you ask me, its quick and ranges from 30-60lbs, I think 40 is required but with the ability to go up to 60lbs with 70%let off, he could hunt with it for many years to come instead of buying a new one every few years.

PSE Chaos. Just bought one. Has an adjustable draw length 17"-27". Just remove an allen screw and move the module to the correct draw length. Draw weight is 25-50lbs on the one I got. IBO speed is around 270-280pfs(not sure the poundage required to get that speed) Very nice shooting bow. 70% let-off.

I like pse that's what I shoot but I'm looking for the most bang for my buck of course. I wonder where I can go look at the largest selection of youth bows? Or even better who has the best prices? Thanks for all the help so far!

As far as which bow to get him, you will need a bow that he can grow with and his adjustable and can be changed to accommodate his ever changing young bodyvisit multiple shops and have him shoot a wide range of bows for what he is the most comfortable with. All of the bows previuosly mentioned are great choices, and I may add that the Mission bows have a great selection of youth bows that you may want to consider as well.

To obtain his draw length here are a couple of ways you can measure that will get you closealthough, you should have him measured by someone that is very experienced and can get him measured correctly because that is the building block of everything that he will use in archery. Number one have him stand erect, but do not stretch, with the arms straight out to the side, forming a "T", and the thumbs up and measure from the tip of one middle finger to the other and then divide by 2.5. Another rule-of-thumb measurement is to have him stand in front of a wall in a stance like you are going to shoot a bow and make a fist and then put the fist against the wall directly in front of him at nose level and measure from the wall to the opposite corner of your mouth. Keep in mind that both of these are only guidelines and will get you in the ballpark.

My 10 yr old is using the Mathews Mission Craze. Very versatile and will grown in #s and draw length all the way to adult use.

For sure look at the Mission Craze. Adjustable from 15 to 70 lbs and 19" to 30" draw length. One bow, no press to adjust. Great shooting bow, and every profit dollar made from the Mission Line goes to charity. How cool is that. Great seller for us, and we've had 0 problems with them. Good luck!!
