Youth Hunt Canceled in Mississippi Flood Zone

Re: Youth Hunt Canceled

For those not in the know, the statewide youth hunt is not cancelled. This small sliver of low lying bottom lands along the MS River is closed due to high river stages. As Hawk mentioned, this has been the pattern last 3-4 years straight. I am still amazed this portion of the state has same dates and bag limits as other parts of the state.

Re: Youth Hunt Canceled

Now that I look at it more closely, it appears to be the entire county. Doing too many things at once and overlooked the black county boundary. Just called Jeff Martin (TWRA) there in Lake County and left a voicemail asking him to confirm the entire county is closed during these high water stages. Based on the Memphis forecast, the "affected area" will remain closed until middle of April when Memphis is expected to fall below 32'. Pretty substantial impact to the those hunters in that area.

Although it is Federal are the Chickasaw NWR hunts closed under this same proclamation?
My understanding is they are.

"In accordance with Proclamation 16-45, the Mississippi River stage is above 34 feet (34.0) at the Caruthersville, Mo. gauge, closing all big game hunting immediately in the Mississippi River Floodwaters Zone and will remain closed until the Mississippi River stage falls to 32 feet at the Memphis gauge."

The Obion County area of Reelfoot National is included on the closure map. Not exactly sure but the closed area jut up to the bluffs. This happen a couple of years back.
