What are your recommendations on a choke/shell combo for a youth 20 chambered in 3" (model of shotgun-Tristar)? I've done a bit of internet scouting (OG and a few other sites) and it seems that most have good patterns using a 560-562 choke and federal HW 7's. Heading to Bass Pro today, as the weather has dampened my pattern ability, to pick-up a new choke and shells so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron

I have been working on the same thing as you can see from the previous post. I shot again yesterday because I finally found and bought some federal heavyweight #7 shot. I also purchased a non-ported Undertaker choke tube 575. I really liked the result and that is what I am going to hunt with. Mine is a Mossberg youth model 20Ga with a 22 inch barrel. I was advised to stay away from ported choke tubes with that flight control wad. Good luck getting it set up!

I set my daughters 20 ga 870 up with a truglo gobble stopper extreme and Remington nitro 5's and its really mean at 30 yds it will absolutely ruin a gobblers day.

I saw the other posts but nothing specific to the tristar. Was hoping someone had the same gun and had already went through the process of choke/ammo combinations. I don't want my 10 year old to shoot over 30-35 yards so I may stick with the factory choke and 3" # 5's.

Carlsons (and many others) make chokes for tristar raptor youth 20 gauge. They take Benelli style Mobil chokes. The .575 Carlsons throws a mean pattern in Winchester supremes and xtended range. Surprisingly, the full choke that comes with the gun throws a phenomal pattern at 40 yds with the fed hw #7s. Paints the paper and thick too
