Hey guys. Looking at getting a couple of start bows in the next few weeks. Money as usual is the main issue. I've looked at a couple of used Browning Micro Midas and they look ok, but I found Martin's Threshold NG1 brand new for under $200.00.

I've read reviews on a few other sites and no one is saying stay away from it, but they aren't recommending it either. Most people advise is to save a little more and get a Diamond or a Bengal, thing is I'll have what I have when I have it. The idea of putting the boys in new bows for $200.00 each is very appealing.

I can get it them 50lb or 70lb draw weight's and am leaning towards the 50lb which can be reduced to 40lb. I figured they could shoot them for several years and pass them on. Anyone's thoughts?

I'm sorry, but I haven't heard anything, good or bad, about any of the bows listed. What draw weight can the boys pull back comfortably? Both look like they could handle something in the 50-60 lbs. range (just my thought). Whatever, I bought I would make sure that I buy something that will keep up with their size and strength that will be rapidly changing in the next couple of years.

I was thinking about the 50lb. Could start off set at 40lb then by deer season be at 50lb. Which they could hunt with for a few years. I know you are no great fan of speed but at 75% left off @ 305 FPS (possible) they'll be better setup than what I currently am. Just need to figure out what arrows to use. Will probably stick with Carbon Express Walmart specials for the moment (cheaper to replace!)

Just looked at a Missiom Craze, used, broke the bank just looking at them!

The Craze's are only $299 MSRP brand new. Used I've seen them selling for $125-150 bare bow. Problem is that most of the folks selling them, have the package and don't want to sell bow only. But patience is a good virtue.

If $150 is breaking the bank, archery ain't the sport you need to be looking at getting them into.

Not been fortunate to find them used bare bow. Anything I get I have to do in duplicate and leave enough for me to get a few trinkets too!

What is their draw length ? It will be tough to get anywhere near 305 at 50lbs and a short draw length . A more realistic expectation for actual FPS would prob be 250-260 Max with a pretty light arrow . The reason I was asking about the draw length is because I shoot a 2012 PSE DS Evo at 60 lbs with a 27.5 inch draw , it shoots a 385 grain(total weight) at 282 . I know the difficulties of speed and a short draw length . If either of the cheaper bows feel good in their hand they will be fine to get them started ..

You don't want to spend a whole bunch of money and then they might not even like it .

The only thing that either of them have ever really handled is a 90's Clearwater Power Mag and my 1987 Browning magnum plus, so anything beyond that will handle like a dream.

Just consider what they will be able to handle in the future, and what they can shoot now and compare that with your budget and go with thatyou can always upgrade later, or have them get to mowing lawns and let them pay for their own upgrade. :) The most important thing right now is to just get them shooting. Let me know when you get whatever and I'll help get them setup.
