Even though I pulled the trigger this morning at 10:02 on bird #2 of the season, for the second day in a row didn't hear a single solitary gobble. Anyone else experiencing this?

Only been 2 times had multiple birds gobbling both mornings. It's weird how some areas get right before other areas. Heck even on the Juvy weekend 2 counties away they were gobbling good in the cold and frost. Not sure what causes them to be hush hush unless it has to do with them being henned up.

I've yet to go this week because of work but last weekend they were dead quiet. Could've killed several but don't kill them unless they talk. It's just early where I huny

Been three times in 4 days. I finally heard one today around 11, but he was way off on a opposite ridge with no real way to close the distance. He gobbled 1 time! That's the only gobble I have heard since season started! It's been ruff, have heard zero hen chatter as well. I have never seen this area like this ever, don't know what's going on. On the walk out today I came around a little patch of cedars and surprised a gobbler in hardwoods in front of me. He sprinted off, but turned around and jogged right back in my direction and past at 15 yds. Could of killed him, but I won't do it like that. If there not gobbling or coming to the call I don't really care anything about pulling the trigger.

The bird today definitely came to the call just didn't holler back; it still amazes me how closely they can pinpoint calling. Ben Lee said he honestly believed if he was calling from a hole in the ground, the turkey would walk up and look in the hole. This bird came 200ish yards up a field to me and would crane his neck looking for the hen, half strut every so often, and I'm sure if it weren't for the wind I'd have been able to hear him drum. He, nor any of his buddies in the neighborhood, are gobbling for some reason.

Oh well, tomorrow's a new day so maybe they'll speak up.

I have heard birds 3 out of the four mornings. Monday was silent where I was.

Heard two this morning, although neither gobbled on the roost.

I heard them Sat on the roost but after that they were pretty quiet. This morning, they didn't do anything up until I left at 0830.

On the juvenile hunt they gobbled good. Opening day only heard one bird and he gobbled decent. Sunday they were fired up and gobbling their heads off. Two worked in perfectly to the call and only one left. Technically they both left but one was in the back of my truck.

same as usual in middle TN for me this past weekend. It all depends on the birds mentality and situation at the moment... Tons of gobbling on the roost, several without another gobble after they hit the ground with hens, several that continued to gobble nonstop after hitting the ground off roost. Only had one bird I watched that wouldn't respond at all to a call whatsoever despite being within 100 yards of him, he's going to be a tough sombitch to kill unless his mood changes.

Chalk me up for another silent morning in the woods. This is the worst start to a TN season I've ever witnessed, for whatever reasons the birds in the mountains where I hunt will not gobble, no matter what.

Turkey I was after gobbled one time on the limb this morning. Googans converged on 'em from 3 different directions and eventually spooked him. Went back to the truck and ate my biscuit, then took a nap. I snuck back in to the bottom he has been strutting in the past 2 mornings and got quiet. 10:30 he starts gobbling at crows. I got good position on him, but kept my distance(200 yards), because the woods are WIDE open. Got him fired up with a couple of sharp clucks and he began to "slowly" close the distance. Gobbled probably 30 times before he graded around the small rise I was positioned behind. Killed 'em at 30 steps at 12:42. Inch sharp spurs, 11in. beard and a heavy 18 pounds. These turkeys have been gobbling on the limb and on the ground till right at 7:30 and then shutting up, but then firing back up at crows right around 10:30.

Nice job, I'd love the opportunity to play the game with mine. Right now they don't gobble on the roost or ground, period. I've never seen them this quiet. At times I wonder if they're even any left to hunt on the public ground I hunt.

Seems to be gobbling normal to less than normal for me. I think it's still all correlated with having a few hens for most of the day.

I've had all of my luck this season between 11:00-2:00.

Thank you sir. Took your advice and decided to put a full half breast on my pit. Smoking nicely with peach wood as I type this. Ought to make for some fine turkey sandwiches for both tonight and tommorrows lunch in the woods ;)
My mouth is watering....

The areas I hunt were literally covered in almost 30" of snow 3 weeks ago and there's not a hint of green yet. I just think they are way behind normal, and there are hens starting to scatter about as though they're breaking from their family groups.

Should be getting close then, if the hens are breaking up looking for nesting grounds.

Compared to the last few days they were absolutely on FIRE this morning...I heard exactly 2 gobbles! Woohoo!! He had hens so I just chose to wait on him a little later in the season, but I was just glad to hear one to be right honest.

There's all sorts of tracks in the roads so I know there hasn't been a turkey rapture or anything. I just don't know why they're so tight-beaked. Curious for sure.

Here it rains every day extremely hard so any tracks etc get washed away. The month of snow mashed down any old sign as well.

So it feels at times like there's literally no turkeys left. Where I hunt is all woods for miles and miles, so seeing them isn't an option either.

I'm not going to lie it's starting to affect me mentally.
