Careful out there

I walked up on a cottonmouth two weeks ago in our duck field. He was coiled up on a tuft of grass next to the bank. I'm glad he didn't get me or my dog.

I work for the county where I live. We have been pulling water from the pools and have gotten 2 snakes out in the last week. One was a small ring neck the other was a copperhead. Pretty wild. And it was in the upper 20's here when we found them in the water.

I don't think any have been seen east of the TN River yet, correct?

Got plenty of them to deal with in south MS... hoping they don't make it to my middle TN farms.

I think there's the possibility of seeing a cottonmouth along the Cumberland River. However, I don't buy for a second all the stories from people who say the Harpeth River is full of cottonmouths. They're just seeing common water snakes. I've been on the Harpeth quite a bit and never seen one.

Now KY Lake/TN River? Loads of them.

Bryan, when I was stationed at Fort Campbell in the late 1980s, I did a lot of fishing on the river at Dover. There were several places there that I never went into without seeing at least one cottonmouth, especially in midsummer.
