I enjoy most of the youtube hunting shows, better then what you see on TV. Problem i'm seeing now is the hunting shows like The Hunting Public, Shane Simpson, The Untamed, Southern Sportsman and Catman, just to name a few are all promoting TN as great state to hunt. Heck, THP said 3 times on their last 2 videos how great TN is and provided links to TWRA (never done that for any other state) so you can come hunt it. Also talked about how cheap the license is for 4 turkeys and lots of deer. It's great that people want to come to our state, but there is no way our turkey population can handle this many hunters from out of state coming in and the Stay at home COVID-19 event. Not trying to stir up anything or anyone youtuber from this site but it's very concerning what the next 3-4 years will be like. i spoke with 3 people that hunt NF in upper east TN counties that said opening weekend it was trucks parked on every spot along the roads.

And with the slightest bit of research one will figure out where the THP has hunted the last two seasons, in TN.

Oh well, it's for the greater good you know. It's all about recruiting new hunters[emoji19]

That was TWRA working with them to promote hunting in TN. TWRA has been pushing hard for more people to hunt here, both resident and nonresident.

There's a member here who used to post (and may still do) YT hunting videos. I forget his username but he used to be a neighbor of mine before he had to move.

I'd post his first name but persec.

Yes it is not a good thing for those of us that like to hunt public land. Just look at how many were shooting without even being able to ID the bird for certain. When the limit is that high, I guess it doesn't matter what you kill, unless it's illegal of course. My only saving grace is that they likely won't come to my locale because the hunting sucks for the most part. I love to travel and hunt myself but all of this advertising with information that can lead you to a location cannot be good. They may very well be their own undoing, but of course the THP can just go move on elsewhere while the locals are left to deal with it. It is beyond time to switch the TWRA to a state funded organization where funding from license sales is not their overriding concern. If the THP did this pimping of TN at the request of TWRA, then that's even worse, they should take the high road and treat TN like all other states. I hope our license dollars didn't go toward any payment for that.

I was wondering the same thing , I've been watching a lot of it lately and THP only sent links for Tennessee. I think it's great but also sucks at the same time.

to play devils advocate, the state right now seems to have the highest population of hunters on public land that it may have ever had. How much of that is due to youtube videos? I would imagine very little in the grand scheme of numbers. There have been youtube videos of people hunting public land for a long time, just seems to be more popular these days.

Personally I have no real dog in this as I dont hunt public land but even me watching them a good bit (and catmans) it doesnt make me want to figure out where they are hunting and go hunt some public land particularly where they are hunting. Im sure there is some validity to the concerns but I also feel like some of it is blown out of proportion where personal perception becomes that persons reality. If areas are all the sudden crowded, that makes for an easy thing to blame it on.

I love the you tube gen'ers. I like watching the content put out by catman, THP, Dave, Shane, etc. In fact, if it weren't for them, I wouldn't have had the gumption to tackle public land here in South MS myself when we had no birds this year on my private lease. I have learned a TON from all of them about hunting public. Killing turkeys is easy for me, finding them is the hard part.

But that being said, I'm sure many others are like me and can easily figure out where they are hunting. And BTW, THP is NOT hunting the same WMA they and Cat hunted last year. That WMA is probably way too crowded this year. In fact, the long haired THP dude killing a turkey on one of the episodes last year put a satellite photo of where the bird was. I've never set foot on that WMA and it took me exactly 7 seconds to find the exact location myself on satellite imagery.

My question for Cat is.... is the Untamed kid hunting with you guys as well? He's putting too many satellite images in his videos at the moment in TN. Be careful, or there may be 100 boats on that lake next year.

I just dont think the you tubers realize that they are potentially ruining their own spots for the future.... it didn't take me long to figure out which WMA/ national forest THP hunted in MS this season. If I don't have birds on my lease next spring, I guarantee I'll be headed there as I now know they have a ton more than Desoto, and its only an hour drive from me.

Know exactly where you are talking about. He may as well have dropped a lat & long on that spot

Youtube and TWRA with substantial help of the Covid-19 virus are doing a good job of endorsing the state thats for sure! I had 30 min. to get it done before work this morning (Wednesday). I walked in about 3/4 of a mile, didn't hear a gobble and rushed back to the truck. I had two trucks parked right beside me when I got back lol.

That's why Cat and THP didn't hunt it this year :)

After thinking about it.... I hope I didn't sound condescending in my original post. I really DO appreciate the content they put out. Again, I wouldn't have killed the 2 birds I took on Desoto this year if it weren't from what I learned from them.

Now that I'm over that hump, watch out South Dakota and Nebraska next year! I'm coming for your birds :)

I was a good 75-100 miles from there this morning boss. Catman did revisit the scene of the crime opening day though. That unorthodox parking job was interesting.... ol boy just parked across the road and followed him in lol.

Im going to try 150-200 miles from there tomorrow and see if I can put my ears on more turkeys than people.

I haven't hunted with him or know where he's hunting. If he's smart, he will only show example maps and not the actual maps of where he's hunting. THP has started doing this more consistently, as well as myself and Shane. We find an area on the map that looks similar, and use it as an example to explain our setup.

exactly, even dave told me they would never show the actual map. these guys know the outcome before they show the video and it may be for that reason

Let us not act like we are dealing with advanced rocket scientist here lol. Why would Untamed go through the effort to block out a highway number and not show any landmarks if they were using a "similar" aerial. By the way it took about 5 minutes to find.

I can't speak for them, but I block out all names on my example maps. I don't want to give away the wrong spot or the right spot. Just show an example map to explain how I hunt

Im not worried about them boys posting that stuff. If they found the "spots" so can any other competent hunter. I'd say 90% of the hunters aren't even a threat to the birds anyways. The extra pressure helps keep the birds paranoid where not just any goober on a box call will kill them too. Plus even a real slick turkey killer probably ain't gonna kill many birds in new territory with no historical knowledge in the avg time of an out of state hunt anyways. You guys are sounding alot like the guys in Colorado that I ran into slipping out of an elk nest lol
