. You guys are sounding alot like the guys in Colorado that I ran into slipping out of an elk nest lol
And now CO has changed how they issue OTC archery elk tags...that's what happens when you have to many people after the same resource.

Magazines and Internet blogs started pimping out those OTC hunts and things started to get real busy. It seemed like more Texans in SW CO in September than actually Colorado residents.

Im not worried about them boys posting that stuff. If they found the "spots" so can any other competent hunter. I'd say 90% of the hunters aren't even a threat to the birds anyways. The extra pressure helps keep the birds paranoid where not just any goober on a box call will kill them too. Plus even a real slick turkey killer probably ain't gonna kill many birds in new territory with no historical knowledge in the avg time of an out of state hunt anyways. You guys are sounding alot like the guys in Colorado that I ran into slipping out of an elk nest lol

Yeah but they have over 200k followers. A little different.

right but what % of those are A) turkey hunters and B) activity watch content and C) are willing and able to travel to TN to turkey hunt. Again I dont know the answers to those but I do have an educated guess on it. I mean 10-12 of my buddies are followers with a few of those that only watch the deer stuff and NONE of them travel to hunt turkeys, they just hunt around their area and with other buddies on private land when they can. Thats a small sample size but I would say a LARGE % of their 200k viewers fall into the same category as me and my buddies.

Man I'm sure that's the case. I counted 48 trucks at one trailhead. Course I told my buddies that it was a waste of time even driving to it to look but I flattered them anyways, needless to say I refused to go there. I had tried to warn them what it would be like but they didn't believe me till they saw it. Luckily I had plenty of "off the beaten path" spots marked. And ran into just 2 locals and one was packing one out that he shot out of a wallow in the first minutes of the season. Personally I've never had or followed any social media. And rarely watch the youtubers. So I've never been "inspired" to intentionally hunt where someone else is. I had dreamed of chasing elk in the Rockies since I was a child. So I did as soon as I was able to afford it. A little general knowledge of elk in early season, about an hour of reading sat and topo maps and I was into them in a couple days time. Round here I have access to thousands of acres of private but still choose public 90% of the time and rarely run into anyone or hear any other gunshots. Just love figuring out new territory. Been doing it for years I guess and it has kind of recently became trendy but it doesn't really bother me too much. I'm not greedy or possessive over land or game as it seems alot of folks that are older than myself are but I understand it might not have been as easy for them to find spots as it is for the younger guys born into a more technologically saturated era.

It only takes a small number of hunters to have a huge impact. Just ask anyone who has hunted a certain WMA over the years, the more it was pimped the busier it got.

Personal example;
A certain spot in Nebraska where THP and two other popular You Tube content producers descended upon used to be a decent place to hunt. Thousands and thousands of acres of public land. However, you get an increase of say 10-20 hunters and that place becomes crowded and is simply not enjoyable anymore.
They showed major landscapes that anyone with a bird brain can identify.

I guess I just find it all part of public hunting. It's for the public, not just the locals of the area. I mean I get it but at the same time TN WMAs are for anyone in the state to use as they want hunting wise not just the folks that have hunted it for years or live around it. I totally understand that increased pressure for those guys sucks but that's just part of using state land.

I would also imagine when pressure increases and sightings start to decline so will the pressure and after time it will generally be back to what it was before

Again my opinion doesn't mean much as I don't hunt public so I may be more on the unpopular opinion side

Yeah it's awful easy to hit a like button lol. I'd say a good 3/4 of that 200k are hardcore couch surfers or "fair weather, opening day, walk no more than a half mile from the truck, call like a dying chicken while walking all around the whole time" hunters. I'd say say half of the remaining quarter are pretty competent hunters but scared of leaving their comfort zone. The other 1/8 just might pay us a visit at some point. And I'd guess there's definitely less than a 30% success rate from the non res guys on avg. I'm sure there are some real stats out there somewhere. But undoubtedly there has been/will be an increase in non res folk due to the trendyness of the shows. I kinda see it as a good thing financially, maybe the state might use the revenue to, I don't know...buy more land?

I completely get what you're saying. It's public land. Not my land, not your land, but anyone who is legally allowed to the there's land. It's just a giant punch in the gut when a person spends years studying maps, walking every inch of the place, learning how animals react and behave throughout the season; only to sit down on the couch one night to watch a hunting show and see an aerial shot of where they've invested so much time. It just sucks the wind out of a guy's sail.

I just hope THP is going to take catman deerhunting in Iowa when he has enough points for a tag, because they seem to do a lot of taking and don't do much giving.
