Other than watching my son kill his first bird, or killing my first bird, this morning was one of the best - I killed a nice bird using my grandpa's Lohman turkey call that I inherited in 1980. He only killed one turkey in his life (photo attached), but he let my cousin and I play with the call when we were kids. Last year I set a goal of killing a bird with his call, but it never quite worked out. This morning it all came together old school - just me, a call and a turkey! My fear while hunting with this call was either losing it or breaking it - I believe it's time to retire it and put it on a a shelf where my son can inherit it one day.

Good luck to all of you!

Great story and love the call.

Two questions:

1) I'm assuming that you run it like a scratch box? Never seen one like that.

2) If you got it in 1980, why wait 40 years to use it?

Yeah, guess I failed to show the striker. So guess it is like a scratch box. As far as why I waited, I just had it displayed with a few other old items and never thought much about it until the last year or two.

Thanks folks for your responses! I appreciate the comments!!!

That's awesome. Love the pic of your grandpa. People seem to forget there was a time when people killed turkeys without fancy guns, chokes, loads and camo. Including myself. Congrats.
Yeah it's kinda hard to tell in the picture, but I suspect that is his old 16 ga Winchester Model 12 pump that I also inherited. Modified choke and he probably used some high brass #5 or 6 shot if I had to guess. Definitely no decoys, fancy choke tunes, TSS, or probably even camo!
