That is pretty wild. They love pears too, but never seen them try to jump after them.
we have a persimmon tree in the front yard. My golden retriever will bump against the tree trying to shake persimmons off the limbs. Even though they are mature (orange) now, they still cause my mouth to draw into a harsh pucker.... critters can have them!

Do they taste good?
I've had descent ones if you catch them at the PERFECT time. Generally, they will make your lips/mouth pucker worse than your bunghole
Father in law made some "persimmon pudding" last year that was pretty dang good
