This happened yesterday on Old Hickory. This man's life will probably never be the same.

I don't know Cody, but we have a lot of mutual friends. His family posted an update on Facebook earlier.

Cody has suffered a bad fracture of L-1 vertebrae. They will be fusing it today. They have also decided to repair his jaw today .We are asking for no visitors at this time. They think he may move to a room in 5 to 7 days . We will update you daily. Also we have not set up or approved any go fund me accounts for Cody they are bogus. We can't thank all of you enough for your concern ,love and prayers.

Here's a picture floating around. He is lucky to be alive, but could use everyone's prayers.

On Old Hickory - it's not really a matter of "if" you hit something - it's "when" you hit something. Definitely going to look at putting The Leash on my boat now.

I just saw an ad for that yesterday. It's a great idea, but I think I can buy a rigging strap and make it connect to my jackplate for less than 50 bucks. $280 for a Leash to fit my motor is a little steep. I guess when we spend thousands on electronics we could easily justify the cost though.

I think someone should be able to create and sell a more affordable version of something that should work. Something so simple that can save your life shouldn't be so expensive.

Someone will (China), but this should probably be standard with the purchase of a new boat.

I was just looking at them. It looks like they are made for the big outboards. I can't seem to find it for a 75hp. Don't know that it really needs one but wouldn't mind the extra piece of mind.

Wow! I never heard of anything like that before. That thought never crossed my mind.
This same thing happened years ago on KY lake. A guy went through the old 68-80 bridge pilons when the water was just above the supports that went from one to the other(obviously a bad design). Motor ended up in the boat with him and killed him.

was this from a floating log? With electronics now days, surely he didn't run shallow and hit a stump

Looking at the pic, the transom was completely wrecked. Isn't that what those outboard leashes attach to? I'm not saying it wouldn't help but I don't see how a couple eye bolts would keep a big outboard out of the boat
