I know we all have our favorites but for me I would be happy if I never caught another large mouth bass in my life. Brown fish are another story. Smallies definitely put up a better fight and since I don't eat either its all about the fight for me. Probably why I enjoy hybrid and striper fishing so much. God forgot to put the quit in hybrids. And hookup a 30lb plus rockfish and you will never forget it. One day rockfishin I hooked and landed a 7lb largemouth. He was a cute little fella. Fought like a crappie. Spanked his bottom and sent him on his way.

Nothing personal, just ain't my thing. Now for fighting AND eating, bluegill reigns supreme. Caught no telling how many today but brought home a dozen for the wife and I for dinner. Figured I should get em whilst I could before Ruger made his way over here and cleaned out our lakes too 😉

Random question: when you stash them ice like in the pic do you gut them or cut the gills first or just chuck them in and clean completely at home?

Largemouth bass are at the bottom of my list as well. My heart is on the tiny wild trout streams in the middle of nowhere. Rockfish are a ton of fun and I need to get back after them this year. I also like to catch (and eat) yellow perch.

For me it's smallmouth bass.
Chased them from Dale Hollow to Northern Ontario.
Chequamegon Bay in Ashland Wisconsin will always haunt me.
Lost an easy 22"+ smallmouth on my last day back in 2008.
Tossing 17-19" smallmouth back by the dozens.

Smallmouth hands down my favorite fish to catch. I wish I knew how to catch walleye…. But floating down the duck with my feet hanging off the sides of my kayak catching smallies and black perch is my favorite thing to do on earth.

I love to eat bluegill and crappie, but don't care much about fishing for them. If the crappie are biting and someone can put me on them, then I'm all for it. I don't have any desire to go try to find them and figure them out very often.

As for largemouth vs smallmouth - smallmouth are a lot of fun... but... I just like largemouth more because I want to catch the biggest bass out there.

Having said that, me and a buddy are heading up to St Clair at the end of the month to see what the northern smallmouth stuff is all about.

I don't have any interest in the hybrids or stripers because I just don't know anything about it. I'm sure it'd be a blast.

I can't bring myself to get excited about fishing in TN. I wish I could and I keep trying but even when I catch what I'm after I find myself daydreaming of a clear flat with a string of poons approaching.

I do really enjoy taking my son. We tried jug fishing for the first time a few weeks ago. I had a blast watching him pull this guy up.

When I'm on the boat I enjoy catching any of them . Smallmouth in current in a creek or river is a blast. They sure can fight.

Great Lakes smallmouth are mean bastards.

Yeah i have to have flowing water and rock bluffs to get excited. Lake fishing is too civilized for me i guess. I live smallies and rock bass, but 2 pounds spotted bass are filun too and off course plenty of blue gill. 4 pound line and ultra light rods make it a challenge
