What's y'alls favorites

Largemouth bass, bluegill, and crappie are cool and all, and I like catching them. Fried crappie/bream are good, but it's too much work cleaning them. I don't want to work THAT hard. I prepared bass the same way I prepared trout (keep reading to see how I did it ).

I suppose my favorite to catch and eat would be trout. All the brown trout I've caught put up a pretty good fight. And rainbow trout are good eating. No scales to mess with, just flilet them, season them, add a pat of butter and a slice of lemon to them. Then wrap in foil and place over coals, 7 minutes on one side and 6 minutes on the other. Good stuff!

If there's one fish I WANT to catch more of, it would be smallmouth bass. I've only caught 2 or 3 in my lifetime. I want to change that. And I've only caught one walleye in my life. I want to catch more of those too.

smallmouth are actually plentiful and easy to catch if you are in the right spot. i prefer streams over lakes

Yes I would assume you west side folk don't get many chances on smallies and none on walleye. Love catching the smallies and really love eating the walleye. Fortunately we have opportunities for both here in middle tn.

Not as much in West TN. I catch the occasional smallmouth when I go fishing in the Ozarks. That's also where I caught the one walleye I've ever caught.

While I still enjoy catching trout on my flyrod, LA bull reds and FL tarpon have me thinking of them as bait size. For the supreme adrenaline dump, tarpon on the fly is at the top. Bull reds, on whatever equipment, are next down the list. To accommodate both, I work more and fish less here in TN.

I do hope to get back out to the White River in the coming weeks!

hybrids on their spring run but most of all, nothing gets me going like dusk striper trolling in late summer and fall. Things get pretty crazy when you get 2 or more fish on at once. Had 3 on once and only 2 of us on board. I left one rod in the holder and got the other 2 in the boat. The one broke a 40lb leader. Later that night, I caught it again and got my $25 lure back.

I couldnt imagine a tarpon on a fly rod.... The 1 i caught kicked my butt... I mean literally felt like i was gonna get sick i was so hot .. It made me sick at my stomach and it wasnt sea sick!! LOL

I absolutely love river smallmouth on poppers. It's almost too much fun at times.

However, it's a toss up between giant barracuda on the flats or bonefish. I think sight casting to big Cuda (30lbs plus) with a fly in thigh deep water takes the prize for me. This was a few years ago but the fight was epic.

I'm goin against the grain because of my lack of fishing other species. I grew up out west in Big Bass country. Dad was an avid bass fisherman and it's in my blood. I like the speed and the bite. I'm not a sit and watch a line for the bell to jiggle guy. Again, just haven't been taught or experienced that kind of fishin to date. I love fishin regardless. Also did a bit of crappie fishin which is pretty fun too.

They do fight. But you end up with a giant shad!
Most times you actually end up with nothing beyond frustration and introspection about what you could have done differently to make the fish eat. The fish win more often than the angler and I think that's part of the fun.

Everyone talks about the fight of a fish which is awesome do doubt. The most satisfying part of fishing to me is putting the pieces of the puzzles together to catch them. From seasonal changes, to daily changes (wind, water color, cloudy, sun) to picking baits. Every season, every day, down to every hour is constant change. You got to figure out the puzzle.

Whoever you are, please give Pilchard his phone back. Your educated response got you busted for the fraud you are.

Praying Pilchard is safe and being fed
