Went out at daybreak this AM and was very pleasantly cool. Was a fair breeze and light chop but caught 9 in 2 1/2 hours. Great morning! Only saw one other boat as I was heading in. Been on the ledge for the last couple weeks and have always got a few with some consistency. Anybody else having success?

Nice fish. Caught several this evening offshore long lining a 10xd crankbait. View attachment 181994

Question... is long lining legal in tournaments like BFL's, BASS Opens, and Elite Series? I got to wondering about that the other day.

I've used a 6XD before. Man a 10XD has got to pull!

I love fishing offshore. Unfortunately Old Hickory isn't the best place in the world for that, and I rarely have time to get out there and go look for them.

depends and how deep you want to go into the grey area. trolling is not permissable but lets say you throw out a crank and momentarily move away from the bait to "position" the boat until the crank bait gets to depth then lay off the TM and start reeling.

My son was at Guntersville Friday through Monday and caught good numbers offshore but no big ones. There was a weigh in every hour big bass tournament Friday through Sunday and he said there were 10+ boats on every spot offshore.

You almost have to fish offshore on g'ville anymore with eelgrass taking over so much of the shallows. It has moved up to Nickajack and rapidly displacing and replacing the Hydrilla and Milfoil and is much harder to fish.

Nice fish!
So when you say long lining, I assume trolling?
On Norris lately or probably is all the time but I'm new, I thought of trolling a crank bait try schools of baitfish but never trolled for bass although I've caught them trolling for walleyes
Got some 5,6, and 8 XDs.

Exactly what he said. He read some stuff online about flipping that grass, but he said it's just too thick to fish in most spots. He did find a few places where he could flip and caught some.
we have so many grass carp on KY lake, even if we have another 4 year drought like we had in the 80's, i doubt we ever see much grass here again.

Is bow fishing not popular there, or is there just too many?
yes but there was a spawn around 2015 or so. there were predicted a million of them. there were 9000 acres of grass on the north side and within a year of the spawn it was gone. adam martin calculated it took 90,000 grass carp to eat that 9000 acres and he said the spawn produced more than that.

ive seen grass carp 4 feet long in schools.

the good thing it onky took 1 year of good conditions to grow that 9000 acres of milfoil. the bad thing a lake can only have 20% coverage before it becomes detrimental to gamefish spawns. it seems like a razors edge in lake management.
